De turkse premier Erdogan steunt onvoorwaardelijk de terroristische Hamas. De website van Hamas meldt:
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country stands by Hamas, calling the resistance movement an election-taking political party, and ruling out achieving peace in the region without them.
"We stand by Hamas when they are right, because the Hamas movement is a resistance movement. I do not see Hamas as 'terrorist'. They are people who defend the land, and it is a political group that entered the elections and won the elections," Erdogan told Al-Jazeera Wednesday night.
The Turkish premier accused those who call Hamas "enemies of democracy" of not giving the party a political opportunity. "They have been able to place all obstacles in front of them (Hamas) so they do not succeed in any way."
Erdogan urged Quartet head Tony Blair to include Hamas in the peace process, saying: "Peace will not come out of a Hamas-excluded table."

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government "perhaps the worst" in Israel's history on Wednesday night, adding that Israel should "get rid of" Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
"Lieberman is Israel's chief problem, and the Israelis should get rid of him," Erdogan said. "This is their problem, not ours. If Israel doesn't fire him, their problems will get worse."
"Anyone who uses such words against Turkey will look into the mirror and see a despicable man," Erdogan said, in reference to Lieberman.
In an interview with Al-Jazeera on Israel-Turkey relations, Erdogan said: "If the Netanyahu government does not change its policies, it must not wait for any changes in our position."
"The Netanyahu government may be the worst or least fortunate in the history of Israel," he said, adding that Turkish officials will not sit at the same table as Israelis as long as policies do not change.
"I will not renew agreements signed with Israel," Erdogan said. He repeated that Israel should publicly apologize to Turkey and compensate the families of Turks killed on the Mavi Marmara. "When [Israel] responds to these conditions, we will assess the situation."
Dus als Israel democratisch een regering kiest, dan mogen andere landen zich daarmee bemoeien en leden van die regering publiekelijk beledigen, maar als Hamas in een coup de macht grijpt, dissidenten oppakt (meer dan 3000 in 2010), allerlei islamitische voorschriften afdwingt, en aanslagen beraamt op burgers (Israel heeft weer diverse aanslagen van Hamas verijdeld) dan is dat geen enkel probleem en zijn het fijne mensen die helaas nog niet alle mogelijkheden hebben gekregen om zich volledig te ontplooien en al hun mooie ideeën in de praktijk te brengen.

Ik vraag mij af hoe Erdogan zou reageren als Israel de PKK zou prijzen, en zich met de regelmaat der klok zou uitlaten over Koerdische rechten en hun onderdrukking door Turkije.
Israel hoeft zich bovengenoemde beledigingen natuurlijk niet te laten welgevallen, maar iedere veroordeling hiervan of kritiek hierop zal door de pers worden neergezet als onredelijk, en Erdogan is uiteraard iemand die de ongemakkelijke waarheid durfde te zeggen. Lieberman is inderdaad weleens ondiplomatiek, maar ik geloof niet dat hij het zo bont heeft gemaakt als Turkije bij herhaling doet. Het zou Erdogan sieren als hij zich met de vele problemen van zijn eigen land zou bezig houden en erop vertrouwt dat Israel zelf haar regering kan kiezen en haar eigen zaken regelen.
