Jordanië kwaad op Israel vanwege houten platform bij Klaagmuur

 

Te zot voor woorden. Stel dat Israel zich bemoeit met hoe de heiligdommen in Mekka worden ingericht? Hieruit blijkt dat de Arabische wereld ook de Joodse heilige plaatsen in Jeruzalem kennelijk als hun eigendom beschouwt (Jordanië is zo ongeveer het meest gematigde en pro-Westerse Arabische land, een land waar Israel bovendien vrede mee heeft gesloten, dus als zij hier al moeilijk over doen kun je er vanuit gaan dat dat voor andere Arabische landen ook zal gelden). Het laat zien dat een deling van Jeruzalem niet alleen voor Israel, maar ook voor Arabische landen moeilijk ligt, om het eufemistisch te zeggen. Het past ook in de ontkenning van de Joodse connectie met Jeruzalem die gangbaar is bij zowel de Palestijnen als in de Arabische wereld.

Jordanië veroverde wat nu Oost Jeruzalem wordt genoemd in 1948, verdreef de Joodse bevolking en vernietigde hun huizen en heiligdommen. Dat noemen we tegenwoordig etnische zuivering, maar zelfs Israelische kranten schrijven eufemistisch dat Oost- Jeruzalem tot 1967 in Jordaanse handen was.

Structure built for Women of the Wall activist group "is a blatant attack on the Muslim monuments and Waqf, Jordanian minister says. 

   

Jordan has condemned Israel's construction of a large platform that it built at the Western Wall in Jerusalem for egalitarian prayer at the site, Jordan's Petra news agency reported on Monday.

Israel built the platform following protests by Orthodox Jews against the Women of the Wall prayer group who were holding egalitarian and non-Orthodox prayer in the main Western Wall Plaza.

The news agency quoted Jordanian State Minister for Media Affairs, Mohammad Momani saying that the construction of the platform "is a blatant attack on the Muslim monuments and Waqf (Islamic trust) land which is an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque."

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is adjacent to the Western Wall. 

Momani stressed Jordan's position "to exert political, diplomatic, and legal efforts to protect and care for Muslim and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem," and warned of "Jewish settlers and extremists' continued call to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the pretext of Jewish holidays," according to the report.
