[Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA:
Question #1 How many infiltration tunnels leading from the northern and southern Gaza Strip towards Israel are in Israel's "target bank"?
If the answer is greater than zero:
Question #2: What is the approximate number of such tunnels, on average, being constructed each month by the Palestinians?
and
Question #3: Does this mean that it is Israeli policy to allow these tunnels, that could be used at any time "for infiltrating into Israel and executing a terror attack against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers" remain in place - or even increase in number - in accordance with the number of Gaza attacks that justify retaliatory strikes?]

IAF Targets Terrorist Infiltration Tunnels in Response to Rocket Fire
The Israel Air Force successfully targeted two terror tunnels leading from the northern and southern Gaza Strip towards Israel in a joint IDF-ISA operation last night. The tunnels originated from a distance of approximately one kilometer from the Gaza Security Fence, and were intended for infiltrating into Israel and executing a terror attack against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers.
The attacks are in response to the firing of a rocket at the city of Netivot on Thursday evening. More than 280 rockets and mortars were fired at Israel since the end of operation Cast Lead and more than 750 hit Israel in the whole of 2009. Throughout 2008, prior to Cast Lead, over 3300 rockets and mortars were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The IDF will not tolerate the firing of rockets by terrorist organizations at Israel and will continue to respond against any attempt to disrupt the calm in Israel's southern communities.
