Lieberman wacht rechtszaak corruptie na vorming coalitie

Weer een corrupte politicus? Een en ander is nog niet zeker, maar als het allemaal waar is, is dat geen goede zaak.

The three judges fiercely criticized the investigation, which has lasted more than 10 years, saying it harmed Lieberman's standing as an elected official, and told the State Prosecution to respond within 60 days with regards to the progress of the inquiry and to give them an estimation of when a final decision would be made on an indictment.

Israel Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman, expected to become foreign minister in the future Likud-led government, will be summoned for police interrogation immediately upon the conclusion of coalition negotiations, the State Prosecution informed three High Court judges on Monday.

Police suspect Lieberman used Cypriot bank accounts registered in his daughter's name for money laundering purposes, and possibly to also carry out fraud and bribery offenses.

Monday's announcement came during a hearing on Lieberman's petition against the drawn-out investigation.

According to a police commander who attended the debate, the offenses Lieberman was allegedly connected with were still continuing to this very day.

"This is a case that has gone on a very long time and it should now be top priority for the police and prosecution," said one of the judges, Ayala Procaccia.
