An Arabic-language anti-Israel Facebook group passed 1,100,000 likes, the Anti-Defamation League reported. The anti-Israel group was founded in 2011 by Egyptian students, and its largest demographic remains in the 18-24 year-old range.
“Haters of Israel,” the ADL said in a blog post, “functions as a popular forum for those who either identify as haters of Israel or who appreciate the wide appeal generated by the page; some use the page to advertise their own pages and profiles.”
The majority of posts don’t address anti-Israel topics directly, although many do cover anti-Israel and anti-Semitic themes. The fact that most of the posters cover other topics is “a testimony to the fundamental popularity such a title has in much of the Arab world,” the ADL said.
There are several other popular anti-Israel Facebook groups in Arabic, including one that serializes chapters of the notorious anti-Semitic forgery, The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, which is widely read in parts of the Arab world.
