Speaking to Hamas daily Al-Resalah, Gaza-based official Salah Bardawil said that Hamas has improved its rocket capabilities since Operation Pillar of Defense last year, and is now able to hit targets beyond Israel’s commercial and cultural hub.

“The resistance now has various military surprises in addition to newly acquired expertise,” Bardawil said. “[Hamas] has improved its performance.”

Het ziekenhuis waar Amal Haniyeh werd behandeld was dan ook beveiligd en versterkt zodat het raketinslagen zou kunnen doorstaan.

At the very moment the baby granddaughter of Hamas’s Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh was being treated for a critical illness at Schneider Children’s Hospital near Tel Aviv Monday, a Hamas official boasted that his movement’s rockets could hit targets in Israel “past Tel Aviv.”

“The resistance now has various military surprises in addition to newly acquired expertise,” Bardawil said. “[Hamas] has improved its performance.”

During Operation Cast Lead in November 2012, Israel destroyed most of Hamas’s Fajr-5 rockets, obtained from Iran and able to reach a distance of 75 kilometers (46 miles), covering the greater Tel Aviv area. However, Hamas has been developing locally made M-75 rockets with a similar range, one of which landed south of Jerusalem on the third day of the military operation. Over 1,500 projectiles were launched into Israel from Gaza over the course of the eight-day military operation.

Like other Israeli hospitals in the greater Tel Aviv area, Schneider Children’s Hospital, where Aamal Haniyeh was admitted on Sunday with severe inflammation of the gastrointestinal system, has been forced to take precautions against rocket attacks emanating from Gaza.

Over the past few years, the hospital has reinforced its glass windows against shattering and secured an oxygen supply to the basement in case of emergency patient evacuation, hospital spokeswoman Riva Shaked told The Times of Israel Tuesday.

Two hundred Palestinian children are treated at Schneider Hospital every year on average, and 70 percent of them reside in Gaza, Shaked added.

“The Palestinian Authority pays the bill for their treatment,” she said.

Following the news of the treatment in Israel of Aamal Haniyeh, an Israeli government spokesman on Tuesday pointed out Hamas’s cynicism.

“Ismail Haniyeh did not hesitate to send his granddaughter to an Israeli hospital to save her life, all the while expressing his commitment to killing Israelis,” tweeted Ofir Gendelman, a spokesman to the Arab media for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “This hypocrisy indicates [Hamas's] savagery.”

Israel has increasingly been serving as an outlet for patients from Gaza since Egypt tightened its closure of the Rafah Border Crossing in July. Egypt now opens the border to civilian traffic only rarely and arbitrarily.

According to Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, 395 Palestinian patients were admitted to Israeli hospitals from Gaza for medical treatment in September, the highest number allowed in since January 2011. An additional 593 patients from Gaza were admitted to Palestinian hospitals is east Jerusalem. No data exists yet for October or November.

Fadel Al-Mzaini, a medical researcher at Gaza’s Palestinian Center for Human Rights, said the number of patients Israel allows to enter is still far lower than the need of the Strip’s population of 1.7 million.

“They [Israel] have indeed made it easier at the Erez Crossing [between Gaza and Israel], but they only allow in patients who are very seriously ill,” Al-Mzaini told The Times of Israel. “They only allow in 20-25 patients a day and close the crossing on weekends and Jewish holidays.”

On Sunday, the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, known as COGAT, received a phone call from the Palestinian Authority’s liaison office in Gaza requesting to admit Aamal Haniyeh, 1, to an Israeli hospital, after her medical condition deteriorated. The baby was immediately transferred to Israel, accompanied by her maternal grandmother, and admitted to Schneider Children’s Hospital.

“She was brought into Israel, but returned to Gaza after her condition could not be stabilized. She is in critical condition,” Major Guy Inbar, a spokesman for COGAT, told The Times of Israel.

Last month, Prime Minister Haniyeh called for a popular uprising in the West Bank and lauded recent terror attacks on the second anniversary of the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was kidnapped by Hamas in 2006.

No mention of the hospitalization was made on Hamas’s official media outlets.

Abbas wil vredesbesprekingen met Israel tot het eind uitzitten

President Abbas zegt dat hij de vredesbesprekingen uit zal zitten, maar erg enthousiast klinkt het niet:

“We are committed and we will go to the full nine months, and then we will take the appropriate decision, Abbas told AFP.

“We have committed to continue the negotiations for nine months, regardless of what happens on the ground,” he told the French news agency without elaborating.

Het klinkt eerlijk gezegd een beetje alsof hij vooral de gevangenen wil vrij krijgen, waarvan er immers nog twee rondes volgen, om daarna te stoppen vanwege de zoveelste aankondiging in de nederzettingen te bouwen. En Israel blijft die aankondigingen doen omdat het de rechterkant enigszins tegemoet wil komen. Zij geloven sowieso niet in de vredesbesprekingen en zien al helemaal niet waarom daarvoor gevangenen die voor dodelijk geweld tegen Israeli’s vastzitten, vrij moeten komen, nog voordat er iets is overeen gekomen en men een stap verder is. Wat dat betreft had men de vrijlating van de gevangenen beter kunnen laten afhangen van werkelijke vooruitgang in de besprekingen dan alleen de koppelen aan een tijdsschema. En had daarbij dan een maximum aan de bouw in de nederzettingen kunnen worden afgesproken.

Kerry raakt in toenemende mate gefrustreerd door het uitblijven ven enige vooruitgang, en lijkt dit vooral aan de nederzettingen te wijten. De onwrikbare Palestijnse posities en het binnenhalen van de vrijgelaten gevangenen als helden ziet hij kennelijk niet als problemen. Door die houding verliest Israel, dat ook niet erg enthousiast is, het beetje vertrouwen dat men nog had in de onderhandelingen en Kerry als onpartijdige mediator.

Men zal de negen maanden wel uitzitten, maar het lijkt vooralsnog een kansloze zaak. De vraag is vooral hoe beide kanten ervoor kunnen zorgen dat zij niet de zwarte piet toebedeeld zullen krijgen. En in dit spel zijn de Palestijnen, met hulp van een hun sympathieke internationale pers en de VN, vaak handiger dan Israel.

The peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians will run their full course, “regardless of what happens on the ground,” Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday.

“We have committed to continue the negotiations for nine months, regardless of what happens on the ground,” he told the French news agency without elaborating.

Under heavy US pressure and following intense shuttle diplomacy by US Secretary of State John Kerry, Israel and the Palestinians resumed peace talks in July after a three-year hiatus, agreeing to a nine-month timeline, set to expire in March 2014. For the duration of the talks, the Palestinians agreed to suspend their efforts for international recognition and to not pursue Israel in the international legal arena. Israel committed to freeing 104 Palestinian prisoners who committed their crimes before the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993. The second phase of that agreement was completed late last month.

The negotiations have hit some hurdles so far, including an uptick in terror attacks perpetrated by Palestinians, with the latest incident occurring just last week when a 16-year-old Palestinian youth stabbed an 18-year-old IDF soldier to death while the latter was sleeping on a bus. Israel has also made continued announcements of planned construction in the settlements, the latest of which was swiftly scuttled last week by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Palestinian negotiating team resigned last week, blaming continued settlement activity. Three weeks earlier, Saeb Erekat, the chief negotiator, and Mohammed Ishtayeh, had also tendered their resignation citing Israel’s “lack of integrity,” following Israel’s announcement that it intends to demolish 20 Arab-owned buildings in east Jerusalem.

Neither resignation was formally accepted by Abbas. “The delegation to the talks handed in its resignation which we have still not accepted,” he told AFP, adding that the PA leadership was still deciding what to do — either convince the team to return, or appoint a new one.

Earlier this month, Kerry launched an unusually bitter public attack on Israeli policies in the West Bank, and warned that if current peace talks fail, Israel could see a third intifada amid growing international isolation. He also said that calls for boycott, divestment and sanctions would increase in such a case.

“The Palestinian people know that the way to peace is through negotiation. But they also know we are insisting on Palestinian constants,” Abbas said, referring to Palestinian demands that an agreement be based on the 1967 borders, with east Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state, and a resolution to the Palestinian refugee problem created with the establishment of Israel in 1948.

“That is what the Palestinian people are asking us to get from the Israeli side. If we don’t get that, we won’t sign anything,” said the PA president.

Afgelopen zondag heeft men geprobeerd het eenjarige kleindochtertje van Hamas leider Ismail Haniyeh te genezen. Onlangs nog riep haar grootvader op tot een derde intifada en het plegen van aanslagen.

Zouden ze het uberhaupt geloven? Misschien dat meer bekendheid van dit soort zaken, die de menselijke kant van Israel laten zien, ook al een goede stap zou zijn op weg naar vrede? Misschien dat Westerse vredesorganisaties dit soort zaken, en allerlei ander positief nieuws van wat beide kanten doen, kunnen verspreiden? The granddaughter of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh was evacuated to an Israeli hospital in critical condition Sunday afternoon, but was returned to her family in Gaza Monday after her condition was deemed incurable, an Israeli military spokesman said Monday.

On Sunday, the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, known as COGAT, received a phone call from the Palestinian Authority’s liaison office in Gaza requesting to admit the baby to an Israeli hospital, after her medical condition deteriorated. The baby was immediately transferred to Israel, accompanied by her maternal grandmother, and admitted to Schneider Children’s Hospital in Petah Tikva.

The story of Aamal Haniyeh’s hospitalization in Israel first broke in the Arab media after her father, Abdul Salam, wrote on his Facebook page Monday morning that “Aamal was transferred into the Green Line (Israel) now. I pray that God cures her.” The post has since been removed from Haniyeh’s page. However, another entry on Monday afternoon by the baby’s father reported that Aamal had returned to Gaza in a state of clinical death.

Mondoweiss moet niets hebben van Israeli's die de Filipijnen helpen

Het is een bekend fenomeen: bij rampen stuurt Israel, net als veel andere landen overigens, snel en adekwate hulp. Israel heeft ervaring in het snel handelen bij rampen en aanslagen en beschikt over moderne technologie, en dat komt in zulke situaties goed van pas. Men biedt soms zelfs hulp aan aan vijandige landen als Iran. Hoewel dit past binnen de normen van het verkeer tussen landen, wordt Israels royale gebaar door antizionisten steevast aangegrepen om Israels ‘hasbara’ weer eens te hekelen. Israel zou met deze hulp haar ‘misdaden’ tegen de Palestijnen willen wegpoetsen en internationaal goede sier maken. Hieruit spreekt, zoals Elder of Ziyon ook al aangeeft, een diepe en niet rationale afkeer van Israel. Het is immers alleen maar goed dat er op deze manier weer een paar Filippino’s worden geholpen en de zo noodzakelijke medische zorg krijgen.

Maar is het dan niet ergens pijnlijk om te zien hoe het leger dat Palestijnen vernedert nu voor de door een ramp getroffen Filippino’s alles uit de kast haalt? Tja. Wat mensen die zo denken even vergeten, is dat Israel ook vele Palestijnen in haar ziekenhuizen behandelt. Zopas heeft men nog getracht om het eenjarige kleindochtertje van Hamas leider Haniyeh te helpen, maar dit mocht niet baten.

Mondoweiss seems to prefer dead Filipinos to Israelis saving them

The US is sending aid to the Philippines. Isn't that sickening?

I mean, how can the US army and navy, responsible for so many deaths in Asia since the Korean war, dare show their faces in that part of the world and dare to help people?

Even worse, the US Department of Defense and the Stars and Stripes news and other government agencies are publicizing what they are doing! It is all a huge PR stunt, as even the media admits that it helps the US image! The sheep-like reporters go along with this charade, putting out positive stories about what the US is doing without even once mentioning Agent Orange or the My Lai massacre or extrajudicial killings by drones in Pakistan.

Aren't you outraged?

OK, how about this: Other nations are using their media to publicize their typhoon relief efforts. Reporters are putting out positive stories! Countries are issuing statements! This is happening in countries that have wiped out their indigenous peoples like Australia and Canada, and even in the colonialist UK!

Even worse, Coca Cola publicized the $2.5 million they gave in aid to the ravaged country. They didn't bother to mention how much their products also contribute to obesity and heart disease worldwide. No, it was pure public relations.

Now, are you outraged yet?

Congratulations. You are not as filled with frothing-at-the-mouth hate that Philip Weiss of Mondoweiss and his many fans are consumed by.

He saw a positive piece on NBC News about Israelis helping hundreds of Filipinos and he couldn't stand it:

The Israeli army’s spox for international media was also tweeting about the Israeli army’s achievement.

Snyderman got out a story fast, on the Today Show. She puffed the Israeli army:

We’ve heard a lot of sad stories. Now we’re starting to talk about hope. Today the Israelis opened up shop in an area that has had very little attention… Quietly with no fanfare, the Israeli Defense Forces arrived too. The Israelis are known for security, top notch medicine and moving quickly. Dealing with a disaster is no exception…

One hour after their doors were opened, the first baby was born… The baby boy’s name? Israel of course.

The IDF spokesman hopped on the news.

..It seems to have made Fox, too.

...The IDF can’t stop kvelling over the baby.

Snyderman now has a blog up at NBC, “in awe” of Israeli medics, “medicine at its very best” and humanitarianism of the highest order:

I’ve always been fascinated by how well the Israeli Defense Force, otherwise known as the IDF, delivers emergency response medical care in extremely poor conditions. My first experience with the IDF was in Haiti after the devastation of the earthquake there. They were remarkable then, triaging and treating patients in the midst of the devastation.

I wondered if they had found their way here — so we set off to find them. And when we did, it was in a place we least expected…

Smart. Sophisticated. Secure. This was what I had experienced with the IDF before. But now I was impressed with something else: the place they had selected. …

I asked the IDF Surgeon General in charge why they chose Bogo. He said it was because they were poor and their needs were great. As I left, I walked away in awe of this group of doctors: physician humanitarians, and medicine at its very best.

P.S. This is called hasbara, getting out the Israeli story for the world. I wonder when was the last time Snyderman did a report from the West Bank or Gaza.

Horrors! Not only is the IDF daring to save lives of non-Jews, but it is tweeting about it! Without mentioning the occupation!

This is only a tiny indication of the deep psychotic problems that the Mondoweiss writers, and most of its readers, suffer. Read the comments on that piece - you can almost feel the spittle that sprayed onto their keyboards and screens as the Mondo crowd vented their rage because Israel is saving lives, andthey are forced to read about it.

This is all the proof you need to see that Israel-bashers aren't motivated by morality or rationality. They simply hate, and they build their entire lives around that hate. Their revulsion for everything remotely Zionist is indistinguishable from the hatred of racists and bigots throughout history.

Their hate is their defining quality.

IDF aid mission treats 370 patients in Philippines field hospital

Israeli relief organization IsraAID heads to more remote areas of typhoon-struck country to provide humanitarian and medical relief

The IDF announced Saturday evening that its aid mission to the Philippines has so far treated some 370 Filipinos, including 150 children, in the field hospital set up in the country on Friday morning.

The IDF humanitarian mission completed the set up of the hospital early Friday, after departing for the storm-ravaged city of Daanbantayan, in the northern province of Cebu, late Wednesday with about 100 tons of supplies.

The 147-member group, comprising national search-and-rescue unit officials and senior doctors in the IDF medical corps, was tasked with rapidly setting up a "multi-department medical facility" to provide medical care for casualties of the disaster. The facility has children's, women's and ambulatory care departments, as well as a general admission department.

The IDF's IDFRescue account on Twitter released several pictures of the mission's activities since the field hospital was completed.

On Friday, the army tweeted that the first baby boy delivered by members of the IDF mission in the field hospital will be named "Israel."

"It's a boy!" wrote IDF Spokesman Peter Lerner, "amazing news coming out of the IDF field hospital. First baby delivered. The thankful mum named him Israel."

The Israeli aid relief organization IsraAID on Saturday said it was heading to more remote areas of the typhoon-struck country to provide medical and humanitarian aid to those affected by the storm.

The organization also said it was now registered with the UN Coordination Office which is coordinating all humanitarian agencies in the country and seeking to set up "protection centers for children and women while camps are starting to be built."

Earlier in the week, the relief group reported rampant disorder in Tacloban, considered ground zero of the disaster site, where desperate survivors of the typhoon were dying in the fight for food and aid workers need military escorts for protection.

"The situation there is disastrous," IsraAid said Wednesday. "People are rioting due to the lack of food, clean water and access to health facilities and accommodation."

The death toll from the typhoon, which made landfall in the central Philippines last Friday, could be at least 10,000, according to reports, though the official death toll currently stands at more than 4,000.

The United Nations says the storm affected 11 million people in all, more than 670,000 of whom lost their homes. The enormity of the task of helping them all has pressed the resources of the Philippines hard.

Nu ze er echter wel zijn, is het ook niet geheel onbegrijpelijk dat Israel alleen in het kader van een vredesakkoord nederzettingen wil ontruimen, en een deel van dit gebied dan wil uitruilen tegen andere grond.

Toch valt hier iets op af te dingen: in de dicussie over de route van de barriere trekken Palestijnse belangen vaak aan het kortste eind tegenover belangen van de kolonisten, en moeten zij naar de rechter stappen om (mogelijk) toch nog hun gelijk te halen. En als de Israelische regering dat vredesakkoord echt wil bereiken, moeten ze stoppen met bouwen in die gebieden waarvan vrijwel vast staat dat ze bij een akkoord in de Palestijnse staat komen te liggen. En tot dat akkoord (dat eind april bereikt zou moeten worden volgens de lopende onderhandelingen) is tenminste terughoudendheid gevraagd met alle bouwplannen over de Groene Lijn.

Breek de muur af, maar nu nog niet

Het was op een vroege morgen, tien jaar geleden. Ik zat opeens rechtop in bed. „Dat is een bom", zeiden mijn vrouw en ik. Ik liep naar het raam en hoorde in de verte gegil. Even later klonken de sirenes van ambulances en hulpdiensten. Nog wat later liep ik met mijn camera naar de opgeblazen bus. De foto's die ik maakte, heb ik uit respect voor de slachtoffers en hun familie nooit gepubliceerd.

Het was niet de enige aanslag in Jeruzalem. Een decennium geleden ging Israël gebukt onder een zware golf van terreur. Nu is de situatie drastisch verbeterd.

De regering besloot in 2002 een barrière van muren en hekwerken op te richten, om de kans op terreuraanslagen te verkleinen. Momenteel is ruim 60 procent van de afscheiding gereed. Dankzij deze en andere maatregelen die het leger en de Palestijnse Autoriteit hebben genomen, is het aantal aanslagen enorm teruggelopen.

Zwaar omstreden

De barrière is buiten Israël echter zwaar omstreden. Critici wijzen erop dat de afscheiding illegaal is, omdat zij niet staat op de grens die gold tussen 1949 en 1967. Maar het idee echter dat Israël de circa 500.000 Israëliërs die aan de andere kant van de vroegere grens wonen minder veiligheid moet bieden, is bizar. Ook zij hebben recht op bescherming.

Tegenstanders zeggen ook dat de route van de barrière een politiek doel dient. Deze zou vooruitlopen op de toekomstige grenzen tussen Israël en Palestina. Door de ligging van de afscheiding zijn grote happen land van de Palestijnen afgenomen, waardoor nederzettingen de ruimte hebben om uit te breiden. Verder ontregelt de muur het dagelijks leven van vele Palestijnen. Volgens het VN-kantoor voor humanitaire zaken kunnen Palestijnen in 150 gemeenschappen alleen hun grond betreden als ze toestemming hebben van het leger.

Wapens

Het ministerie van Defensie werpt tegen dat de barrière het leger en de veiligheidsdienst heeft geholpen tal van bomaanslagen en andere aanvallen te voorkomen. „Er zijn echter nog openingen, waardoor vele illegale infiltranten –onder wie velen met wapens– elke week onderschept worden", aldus Defensie.

Geen weldenkend mens is blij met de muur. Hopelijk kan deze zo snel mogelijk worden afgebroken. Hij maakt zware inbreuk op het welzijn van Palestijnen en ontsiert het landschap. Maar een feit is dat de muur meehelpt levens te beschermen. Van Israëliërs, Palestijnen (ook onder hen vielen slachtoffers bij aanslagen) en de kandidaat-kamikazeterroristen zelf.

Maar niet alles hoeft te blijven zoals het is. Het leger kan de overgang vaak makkelijker maken dan nu het geval is. Soldaten die zich misdragen tegenover Palestijnse burgers moeten worden gestraft. En nadat de partijen bij de vredesbesprekingen een akkoord hebben bereikt over grenzen, kan Israël de scheiding verplaatsen. En het kan het obstakel helemaal wegnemen als blijkt dat de kans op aanslagen drastisch is verminderd.

Trouw kiest zoals gezegd steeds duidelijker partij voor de Palestijnen, en dreigt daarmee tot een propagandablad te verworden in plaats van een hoogwaardig journalistiek product. Zie hier een paar voorbeelden van hun extreem gekleurde berichtgeving van de laatste tijd. Het is al een tijdje gebruikelijk om gewoon helemaal geen pro-Israel stukken meer te plaatsen in reactie op anti-Israel artikelen, en om in artikelen van eigen redacteuren bijna hetzelfde te zeggen als in de opiniestukken van Israel critici. Op die manier vermoei je mensen niet met verschillende invalshoeken en visies, en men denkt blijkbaar dat de lezers dat prettiger vinden. Internet is vaak het enige plekje waar in zo’n geval nog wel wat ruimte is voor een tegengeluid, maar ook daar wordt bij Trouw hard aan gewerkt.

In reactie op het pro-Palestijnse propagandastukje op Trouw over de video-oorlog, postte ik een paar reacties. In eerste instantie schreef ik:

De echte waarheid of iets betere propaganda? De ‘Palestijnse’ dames zijn niet zo Palestijns (zie: www.israellycool.com), maar wel professionele actrices waarvan eentje model is geweest. Ze weten dus hoe ze een verhaal neer moeten zetten, maar inhoudelijk stelt het weinig voor. Dat de naam Palestina al lang bestaat, is niet echt nieuws, en van dat citaat van Begin heeft men gewoon de helft weggelaten.

En:

Trouw trapt er allemaal in, want alles wat de Palestijnen doen en zeggen vindt Trouw geweldig. Met journalistiek heeft zo’n kritiekloos verhaaltje natuurlijk niet veel te maken. Het had evengoed op de website van het Palestina Komite of Stop de Bezetting kunnen staan. Er is inmiddels ook een reactie op de pro-Palestijnse video gemaakt, maar die zal de Trouw wel niet halen: http://israel-palestijnen.blogspot.nl/2013/11/ leugens-in-de-echte-waarheid-over.html

De eerste reactie werd geplaatst maar de tweede werd geweigerd. Ondertussen waren er reacties gekomen op mijn wel geplaatste reactie, dus daar wou ik op reageren. Iemand schreef:

Hedwigblink: Ratna Pelle, Beter dan de Israëlische onovertroffen propaganda? Dat kan toch niet. De informatie op door u genoemde site staat zegt niets inhoudelijks. Wat we nu weten is dat beiden sterke banden hebben met Palestina en daar is niets mis mee. Ben blij te lezen dat u tenminste niet ontkent dat Palestina bestaat. Ik ben wel nieuwsgierig naar de andere helft van Begins citaat. Eigenlijk raar dat u ons dat onthoudt.

Ik postte daarop de rest van het citaat, zoals me werd gevraagd:

Begin: “This was a war of self-defense in the noblest sense of the term. The government of national unity then established decided unanimously: We will take the initiative and attack the enemy, drive him back, and thus assure the security of Israel and the future of the nation.”

En vervolgens een reactie op ‘hedwigblink’ gericht, waarin ik aangaf dat ik eerder een link had gepost met het volledige citaat, maar dat die blijkbaar door de redactie was geweigerd, en ik benieuwd was of het nu wel geplaatst werd. Ook gaf ik de context aan waarin Begin deze uitspraak had gedaan. Het was nl. onderdeel van een speech uit 1982, toen hij onder vuur lang van de oppositie vanwege de Libanon Oorlog, en deze daarom wou vergelijken met de (in Israel unaniem als gerechtvaardigd beschouwde) Zesdaagse Oorlog.

Dit keer werd geen van mijn twee reacties geplaatst…

Inmiddels was er wel een tweede reactie op mij door de moderatie gekomen (zie verderop). Ik probeerde het nog eens met twee reacties:

Drie van mijn vier reacties hier zijn niet geplaatst door de schijnbaar niet erg neutrale webredactie, waaronder het uitgebreidere citaat van Begin, die deze uitspraak deed in 1982 om zich te verdedigen tegen kritiek op de oorlog in Libanon. Begin was helemaal geen premier in 1967 en zijn (politiek gemotiveerde) uitspraak is maar een uitspraak.

Deze werd wederom niet geplaatst; de andere (een herformulering van mijn tweede reactie) werd nu wel geplaatst:

Opvallend dat Trouw niet kritisch is naar beide video’s, die beide propagandistisch zijn en de geschiedenis naar hun hand zetten. Het is nu een totaal kritiekloos stukje dat de Palestijnse video ophemelt. Trouw kiest steeds vaker eenzijdig partij voor de Palestijnen. Er is inmiddels ook een reactie op de pro-Palestijnse video gemaakt, maar die zal de Trouw wel niet halen: http://tinyurl.com/qzmrpex

Tot slot heb ik mijn geweigerde vierde/vijfde reactie nogmaals gepost, in weer iets andere woorden.

Ik probeerde meermaals het citaat van Begin te posten en de context uit te leggen, maar dat mag blijkbaar niet van de webredactie? Hij zei dat het wel degelijk een oorlog van zelfverdediging was, maar deed deze uitspraak in 1982 vooral om zich te verdedigen tegen kritiek op de oorlog in Libanon. Ook deze kwam niet door de censuur van Trouw, zodat de plaatsingsscore 2 van 7 is.

Er lijkt weinig lijn te zitten in wat men niet en wel plaatst, gezien ook het feit dat een reactie van mij aanvankelijk is geweigerd en later in iets andere bewoordingen wel is geplaatst. Moderatie is helaas nodig bij artikelen over Israel, en bedoeld om grove, beledigende, racistische etc. reacties eruit te filteren. Maar daar is hier geen enkele sprake van.

De moderatie op Trouw lijkt strenger geworden dan enkele jaren geleden, toen grove en soms zelfs antisemitische reacties doorgelaten werden door de redactie. De volgende reacties van anderen kwamen wel door de censuur:

@bonzai. Die mannetjes lopen ook onder ons. De half geletterden die zich graag als Jihadist profileren lopen weer onder ons. Op tijd terug gekeerd, helaas geen martelaar geworden, die 40 maagden voor elkeen moeten nog eventjes wachten op die simpele moslim-macho zielen. Die zieken lopen onder ons en de Nederlandse regering is weer flink aan het pamperen, dat mag wel geld kosten. En mensen zonder baan mogen participeren in een bejaardenhuis. Het is wachten op het volgende schaap. Wacht maar af!

“Twee Arabische schoonheden leggen in perfect Engels uit….”. Wat maakt het uit dat er perfect Engels gesproken werd? En nog meer: doet het uiterlijk van de Arabische dames er toe? De journalistiek volgt steeds vaker de normen en waarden die je tegenkomt bij reality-shows. Kunnen we dit artikel van mevrouw Nienke Schipper nog wel serieus nemen?

@RatnaPelle. De dames hebben niet ‘de helft van het citaat van Begin’ weggelaten, maar zelfs 99 procent van zijn lange speech! De boefjes. Maar het goede nieuws is dat hun beknopte samenvatting de spijker op de kop is. Begin stelt overduidelijk dat Israël de oorlog van 1967 begon, net als die van 1956. En daarmee onderstrepen de dames dat Ayalon in zijn door zijn eigen regering gemaakte en betaalde propagandafilmpje bikkelhard staat te liegen. Botte staatspropaganda van de griezeligste soort.

Even voor de duidelijkheid, ik vind dit allemaal acceptabele reacties, maar in deze reacties wordt ook kritiek geuit op de schrijver van het artikel, worden mensen van ‘bikkelharde leugens’ beschuldigd en wordt denigrerend over ‘mannetjes die zich als jihadist profileren’ gesproken. Dus ik begrijp niet waarom ik geen kritiek op Trouw mag geven of een citaat van Begin dat in het Palestijnse filmpje precies daar wordt afgebroken waar het de dames uitkomt. Het is in feite onmogelijk om nog te discussiëren op een site als je geen antwoord mag geven op een vraag die je wordt gesteld.

Oh, en tot slot nog even in antwoord op de laatst geciteerde reactie: zoals duidelijk moge zijn, paste het tweede deel van het citaat wat minder goed in het verhaal van de dames dan het eerste. Dat men de rest van de speech van Begin niet weergaf vergeef ik ze, maar uiteraard zegt een citaat zonder enige context weinig, en moeten we daar dus ook weinig waarde aan hechten. De feiten rond 1967 en de bedreiging die van de Arabische staten uitging was alles bepalend in de vraag of dit een gerechtvaardigde oorlog was, niet één enkel uit zijn verband gerukt citaat van een Israelische leider uit 1982, die daar bovendien een politieke bedoeling mee had. Er wordt dus geen spijker op zijn kop geslagen, er wordt überhaupt geen spijker geraakt, er wordt alleen wat lucht verplaatst.
