Palestijnse opruiing in het licht van de familiemoord in Itamar

 

Er wordt vanuit de anti-Israel hoek (o.a. op Joop.nl) geklaagd dat Israel ten onrechte de Palestijnen beschuldigt (en 'collectief straft' met de aankondiging over nieuwe woningbouw in de nederzettingen), terwijl de moord in Itamar door een Thaise gastarbeider gepleegd zou (kunnen) zijn.

 

Hoe de aankondiging precies gebracht is weet ik niet, maar de media suggereerden vaak een direct oorzakelijk verband; met de timing wilde het kabinet wellicht inderdaad een signaal afgeven, maar natuurlijk is zo'n besluit op zich gebaseerd op andere afwegingen en over langere termijn voorbereid.

 

Hoe sterk de aanwijzingen zijn dat er Palestijnen achter de moord zitten, weet ik ook niet precies. Er zullen zeker sporen op de plaats van het misdrijf zijn gevonden van de dader(s). Soortgelijke aanslagen/moorden zijn in elk geval herhaaldelijk door Palestijnen gepleegd op bewoners van de nederzettingen, en bij mijn weten nog nooit door oost-Aziatische gastarbeiders, dus vreemd is het zeker niet dat men de daders onder Palestijnen zoekt.

 

Dat terroristen in Palestijnse media en moskeeën worden geëerd en verheerlijkt is een feit, dat echter door de anti-Israel aktivisten meestal wordt doodgezwegen of gebagatelliseerd. Daarom hieronder maar nog eens een paar voorbeelden van de opruiing en antisemitische propaganda.

 

Anja Meulenbelt & co klaagden tevens dat er werd bericht dat in de Gazastrook lollies werden uitgedeeld aan kinderen om de vreselijke moord te vieren. Dat zou slechts gemeld zijn in één bron: een journalist van het Israelische Ynet News, en die kun je natuurlijk niet vertrouwen. Men stelt meer vertrouwen in het Palestijnse Ma'an News, dat met het bericht over een Thaise verdachte kwam. Dat de gemiddelde Israelische journalist veel professioneler en onafhankelijker bericht dan Ma'an, lijkt mij geen onderwerp van discussie. Overigens zijn mij geen foto's bekend van de lollies en de kinderen, maar zag ik wel degelijk foto's van zoete hapjes die aan volwassenen in Rafah werden uitgedeeld, en dat was niet in het kader van de anti-honger campagne van Hamas. Ook hier geldt verder dat bij eerdere terreuraanslagen wel degelijk snoep werd uitgedeeld, dus onwaarschijnlijk lijkt het mij zeker niet.

While the leaders of the PA mouthed their meaningless words of condemnation for the Itamar massacre of the Fogel family, here is is their real reaction:

Palestinians have named a town square after a female terrorist who killed 37 Israelis in 1978.

The official dedication of the Dalal Mughrabi square near Ramallah took place just two days after a Palestinian terrorist group claimed responsibility for the brutal murder of five Israelis from the same family, three of whom were children.

Mughrabi is celebrated by some Palestinians for her role in a bus hijacking on the road between Tel Aviv and Haifa. Thirteen children were among those killed in that attack.

Although there were no government officials in attendance at the ceremony, members of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party were present.

Also this weekend a sports contest at a Fatah-run youth centre in the West Bank was named in honour of the first female Palestinian suicide bomber, Wafa Idris.

Idris murdered an 81-year-old man when she blew herself up outside a busy shoe shop in Jerusalem nine years ago. The attack also left 150 people injured.

A talk show on official Palestinian Authority television recently promoted the classic Antisemitic stereotype of Jews being overly concerned with "accumulating money." The guest attempted to validate his defamation by claiming that it is corroborated in the Quran.

In addition, the guest's call for the destruction of Israel, in his words, "to liberate the entire stolen Palestinian homeland," met with approval by the official PA TV host: "I join my voice to yours; of course, unity and liberation are the hope of all Palestinians." PMW has documented the ongoing denial of Israel's right to exist by the PA.

The program Personal Encounter featured an interview with Abd Al-Rahman Abu Al-Qassam, a Palestinian actor living in Syria. He described the PLO's discovery that "the pen and the stage" can be effective weapons, and says his enemies are the Zionists "who were taken by World Zionism, and were transformed from the old Jew into the Zionist Jew, full of fascism." He conceded that early Palestinian theatrical portrayals of the Jews as bent-nosed, weak and cowardly were not accurate, but insisted that the other early stereotype connecting Jews with money was indeed true:

"Of course, he [the Jew] is interested in accumulating money - the Jews throughout history, and in the religions, and the Quran tells us about the Jews and their worry over money."

His Antisemitic statements were not challenged by the PA TV host. PA TV is controlled by the office of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Al-Qassam: ""30 or 40 years ago, we presented the Jew in the theater as someone with a bent nose who lends with interest and who understands nothing except money matters, and is cowardly, ugly, interested only in collecting money and controlling the people around him. However, this is not accurate or correct: The Jew doesn't have a bent nose, and isn't cowardly, and is not interested only in accumulating money.

Of course, he is interested in accumulating money - the Jews throughout history, and in the religions, and the Quran tells us about the Jews and their worry over money. But that's not everything. Everything, for these people, means keeping what they've managed to attain, in other words, occupation of territory, of a homeland, of history, of geography...

My brothers... in Gaza and in the West Bank... I want to urge you strongly to unite ... this enemy [Israel] is not an easy enemy, and if we want to defeat this difficult enemy, we have to be united so that we can strengthen our abilities... to liberate the entire stolen Palestinian homeland [i.e., all of Israel]. May Allah bless you."

Het diplomatieke fiasco van Israel is even serieus als een militaire blunder

Wanneer Israel in oorlogen fouten maakt, moeten de verantwoordelijken onmiddelijk opstappen. Na ieder fiasco of iedere fout wordt uitgebreid onderzoek gedaan. In 1973, 1982, 2006 en na de recente Gaza oorlog werden onderzoekscommissies aangesteld die onderzochten waarom Israel bepaalde zaken niet zag aankomen, zich liet verrassen, waarom er zoveel burgers omkwamen of men de raketten maar niet kon uitschakelen. Maar op het diplomatieke front verliest Israel slag na slag en niemand wordt ter verantwoording geroepen, niemand wordt ontslagen en er worden geen onderzoekscommissies benoemd. Israel vertrouwt nog steeds vooral op het leger, en dat geeft de mensen het gevoel dat ze sterk en onafhankelijk zijn. De VN en de rest van de wereld worden als hopeloos partijdig, zo niet antisemitisch gezien. Aldus Doron Rosenblum in Haaretz:

Ik begrijp ergens wel dat men in Israel weinig vertrouwen heeft in de VN en andere diplomatieke organen, dat men het idee heeft dat je nog zo'n goed verhaal kunt hebben maar het heeft geen enkel effect. Op het strijdtoneel is dat anders: als je je goed voorbereidt en goeie wapens hebt, kun je winnen. Maar in de diplomatieke arena lijken goede argumenten Israel niet echt te helpen. En als je het gevoel hebt dat je toch niet kunt winnen en toch je recht niet krijgt, wend je je af. Maar ondertussen gaat de delegitimatie door en komt Israel steeds geisoleerder te staan. Zij zal deze strijd even serieus moeten gaan nemen als een militaire strijd, en er even vaardig in moeten zien te worden, wil de Joodse staat straks trots haar honderd jarig bestaan kunnen vieren.

Let's imagine that Golda Meir and Moshe Dayan continue to head the government and the Defense Ministry for months and years after the debacle of the Yom Kippur War; and not merely that, but that no decisive situation was reached during the war and hostile forces continue to pour in from north and south, to Ashkelon and to Tiberias, and to mount a siege of Israel's major cities.

Is such an unrealistic scenario possible? Could it happen in a country of committees of inquiry and state comptroller reports when the careers of senior army and government figures are ended almost automatically after every bungled battle? The answer is: yes. It's not only possible but happening right now in front of our eyes. It happens under one condition - that the disaster takes place not on the battlefield, but in the political arena.

With well-honed apathy, one can dismiss the horrifying survey the BBC released this week saying that a huge percentage of the public in 27 countries places Israel among the most hated states in the world, alongside Iran and North Korea.

It's possible not merely to scorn these findings (and similar ones published in recent years ), but even to wallow in them in the kind of masochistic pleasure which became a motto of Israeli foreign policy in the Netanyahu-Lieberman era - Happy are we, we are hated! We are hated anyway simply because we are Jews and because the world is anti-Semitic. Why try to be "Israeli"? To what end should we attempt to take our fate into our own hands and strive for normalization and a diplomatic solution if they will go on hating us anyway?

On the contrary, we can supply the gentiles with new reasons to hate us: We shall continue to settle and to irritate them until they burst a blood vessel and - as a bonus - we shall strengthen our "Jewish identity." That means we shall curl up tighter inside our ethnocentric ghetto mentality.

Only one voice has been heard - the profound and courageous words of Ilan Baruch, the Foreign Ministry official who resigned in protest over the "malignant diplomatic dynamic" of the Netanyahu government, which is acting provocatively in a way that "threatens Israel's international standing and undermines the legitimacy not only of the occupation but also Israel's very membership in the family of nations."

In retrospect, will we compare this lone protest to Motti Ashkenazi, who provoked the outrage that followed the Yom Kippur debacle? That's doubtful. Israelis have become accustomed to being dependent, almost exclusively, on the army, on its campaigns and wars, for their sense of self-importance and national morale. No civilian political culture has developed that can grasp profoundly - sometimes with horror - the fateful significance of coping with the diplomatic challenge, which is the real playing field of the nations. No one is going out in the streets holding placards protesting against the fall of one political outpost after another; there are no demonstrations against the apathy that holds Israel captive as its isolation grows, year after year.

When people want to say a good word about Netanyahu and the way in which he functions, they point mainly to the "quiet on the security front." They boast that "there are no terrorist attacks on the buses," that the stock exchange is rising, and that the number of soldiers dying is small. It makes you think of a person whose home burned down and now is proud of the fact that he's gotten rid of the smoky smell, while a flood is washing away the ground on which it stands.

'47% of Germans think Israel exterminating Palestinians'

Study shows a strong presence of "anti-Semitism that is linked with Israel and is hidden behind criticism of Israel" in Europe.

BERLIN – A think-tank affiliated with Germany's Social Democratic Party issued a new report last week that revealed high levels of anti-Semitism in Germany, Poland and Hungary, as well as varying manifestations of racism, homophobia and prejudice in eight European countries.

Dr. Beate Küpper, a researcher from the University of Bielefeld who co-authored the Friedrich Ebert Foundation's study along with her colleagues Andreas Zick and Andreas Hoevermann, told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that the study showed a strong presence of "anti-Semitism that is linked with Israel and is hidden behind criticism of Israel, and is not neutral."

She termed the outbreak of Jew-hatred in Germany "remarkable" because there were widespread Holocaust remembrance and education events in Germany.

The study – "Intolerance, Prejudice, Discrimination: A European Report" –questioned roughly 1,000 people in each of the selected EU countries.

The investigation was limited to Great Britain, Holland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Poland and France due to financial restrictions and requisite expertise in each country to track anti-democratic attitudes, according to Küpper.

Asked to respond to the statement that "Israel is conducting a war of extermination against the Palestinians," 47.7 percent of the study's participants in Germany expressed agreement – the highest number in Western Europe.

The statement is a typical question used to probe attitudes about equating Israel with the Nazi campaign to exterminate European Jewry.

The US State Department defines the comparison as an expression of modern anti- Semitism, as does the European Union.

Given Poland's lukewarm foreign policy toward Israel, the finding that 63.3% of the Poles questioned agree that Israel is seeking to obliterate Palestinians may be deeply alarming to some.

The statement "Considering Israel's policy, I can understand why people do not like Jews" met with 35.6% affirmation in Germany, while 35.9% of British respondents were in agreement. In the Netherlands, 41.1% favored the assertion, as did 55.2% in Poland, 45.6% in Hungary and 48.8% in Portugal. France declined to participate.

The researchers also asked whether "Jews try to take advantage of having been victims during the Nazi era."

Almost half the Germans questioned responded in the affirmative; the country's 48.9% result was the highest among the Western European countries. The Netherlands provided the lowest percentage, with 17.2% affirming that Jews were trying to exploit the Nazi era. The number for Poland was 72.2%, and Hungary reached 68.1%. France reached 32.3%, England 21.8%, Portugal 52.2% and Italy 40.2%.

Küpper said that Poland and Hungary were also plagued by extraordinary levels of sexism and homophobia. In response to the statement that "there is nothing immoral about homosexuality," 75.8 % of Poles and 67.7% of Hungarians disagreed. The Netherlands showed the greatest acceptance of homosexuality, as 16.5% disagreed with the statement. Asked whether "it is a good thing to allow marriages between two men or two women," Poland (88.2%) and Hungary (69.3%) showed the highest negative response.

Here, too, The Netherlands had the highest acceptance of same-sex marriage rights, with a mere 17% disagreeing.

Asked about the reasons for anti-Semitism – particularly in Germany, where there has been intensive Holocaust education – Küpper said the factors explaining anti-Semitism were not analyzed in the study.

However, some academics in Germany frequently invoke the notion of "secondary anti- Semitism" – that Germans are filled with pathological guilt about the Holocaust and shift the blame to Jews and Israel to assuage their complexes – to explain the disconnect between Holocaust remembrance events and the rising hatred of Jews and Israel in the Federal Republic. The theory's proponents say it would account for the disproportionate criticism of Israel in the German media and German parliamentary legislative action targeting the Jewish state over seizing the Mavi Marmara.

A handful of German scholars, including Dr. Lars Rensmann, Dr. Matthias Küntzel and Dr. Clemens Heni, have investigated the phenomenon of secondary anti-Semitism in their writings.

Heni told the Post on Monday that "the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation study is based on the so-called 'group-oriented enmity.' This is a mainstream concept in Germany, introduced by Wilhelm Heitmeyer, among others, some 10 years ago, to downplay anti-Semitism and to equate genocidal anti-Semitism with enmity against jobless people, homosexuals, women and foreigners."

He said it was "a ridiculous concept" because, for example, "equating anti-Semitism with enmity toward Islam is an obfuscation of Islamic and Muslim anti-Semitism. We have a steadily increasing number of Muslims in Europe, while Jews – like in the Netherlands – are thinking of leaving this continent due to anti- Semitic incidents and a political culture based on hatred of Jews."

According to Heni, "the study seems to be reluctant to deal honestly with new anti- Semitism, which is a component of political Islam as well as left-wing and mainstream anti-Zionism in the West."

He used the term "lethal obsession" from the Hebrew University's Prof. Robert Wistrich, an international authority on anti-Semitism, to describe what differentiated anti-Semitism from xenophobia and other forms of hatred.

"The new anti-Semitism is spread not just by neo-Nazis," Heni said, but also "by mainstream left-wing members of parliament, left-wing activists, extremist Muslims and the European elites likewise."

 

Recente voorbeelden van Palestijnse opruiing en verering van terroristen

Het ontbrekende stuk informatie in onze media, helaas alleen op zionistische blogs en websites te vinden. Na de bloedige moord op het gezin Fogel in Itamar heeft de PA (wederom) een plein naar terroriste Dalal Mughrabi vernoemd. Ook een jeugdcentrum en een sportwedstrijd werden afgelopen weekend vereerd met de naam van een terroriste. De PA geeft de jeugd op deze manier de boodschap dat de gewelddadige strijd, ook tegen burgers en zelfs kinderen, een goede zaak is voor de 'bevrijding' van het vaderland. In het Engels veroordeelt men bloedige aanslagen als die in Itamar uiteraard en zegt men voor een tweestatenoplossing middels onderhandelingen te zijn. En vreemdgenoeg gelooft bijna iedereen buiten Israel dat.

Incitement against Israel, which frequently turns into genuine anti-Semitic incitement, is an inseparable part of the fabric of life in the Palestinian Authority.  Thus, anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic messages are regularly heard in both the private and official media and in mosque sermons, and are studied in school textbooks.

Terrorists are given an honored status and become models for emulation in Palestinian society, both in the media and via ceremonies held by insitutions affiliated with the PA. Institutionalized and systematic incitement against Israel has never ceased in the PA,even during the height of the diplomatic process in the 1990s. Examples from Recent Months

On 9.3.11, Abu Mazen's advisor Sabri Saidam, delivered a speech in which he emphasized that Palestinian weapons must be turned towards Israel.  He demanded that the Palestinian people be attentive to the living conditions of martyrs' families and said that the anniversary of the death of Dalal Mughrabi (one of the perpetrators of 1978 coastal highway massacre) should be marked by inaugurating a square in her name in the city of El-Bireh. On 6.3.11, the PA's official newspaper, Al Hayat Al-Jadida, published an item to the effect that the management of a youth club in Ramallah planned to hold a soccer tournament in memory of Wafa Idris, a suicide bomber.

On 9.2.11, the official Palestinian television station broadcast  a clip from a campaign entitled "Women as Exemplars", during which Dalal Mughrabi (see above) was extolled.  In the summer of 2010, several children's summer camps were named after her.
On 24.1.11, the Governor of Jenin issued a Presidential Grant worth $2,000 to the family of Palestinian terrorist, Khaldoun Samoudi, who was killed while trying to detonate two bombs against IDF soldiers at the Beka'ot Crossing.

On 2.1.11, Al Hayat Al-Jadida reported that Azzam Al-Ahmed, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, attended a gathering on the 46th anniversary of the establishment of Fatah, held in the village of Turah, south-west of Jenin, during which models of settlement buildings were blown up.  He reviewed terrorist attacks that had been perpetrated by Fatah and said that, " Fatah is a mass movement which believed in popular revolution and wrested its right to use all means of resistance in order to achieve its aim."

On 30.12.10, Al Hayat Al-Jadida reported that Israel aspired to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to build the Third Temple on its ruins.
On 26.10.10, Palestinian television broadcast a documentary about the work of Palestinian medical teams including a fictitious scene in which an Israeli soldier shoots a Palestinian in the head.

On 6.10.10, Al Hayat Al-Jadida carried an interview with Palestinian Minister Amr Aloul in which the latter said that Israel is, "An apartheid state that carries out state terrorism against the Palestinians.

On 10.9.10, official Palestinian television broadcast a short film in which it was said that Jewish prayer at the Western Wall is, "a sin and impurity."

On 21.6.10, official Palestinian television broadcast a children's program in which it was saoid that, "The Jews are our enemies," and that, "Israeli soldiers are wild animals."

On 28.5.10, official Palestinian television broadcast a report on the family of a Palestinian security prisoner, during which her nieces were interviewed and said that they wanted to bear arms against Israel.
The "History of the Arabs and the World in the 20th Century" 12th-grade textbook, used in the PA, teaches about World War II.  It includes Nazi ideology but does not mention the Holocaust at all.

On 10.3.10, Al Hayat Al-Jadida reported that the Palestinian Authority had postponed the inauguration of the Dalal Mughrabi Square in Ramallah following an official Israeli protest.  This did not prevent dozens of young people from unofficially dedicating the square.A spokesman for the Palestinian security services said that the dedication of the Square had been postponed, "for technical reasons and not at Israel's request."  He added that, "Neither israel nor anyone else is capable of preventing us from being proud of our history."  PA Minister of Culture Saham Al-Barghouti said that, "It is our right to honor our martyrs and name a street after the martyr Dalal Mughrabi on the anniversary of her martyrdom.  It is the right of the Palestinian people.  However, the Israelis' interference with this right indicates how the Israelis violate our rights."

On 27.12.09, official Palestinian television reported that President's Office Director-General Tayib Abd A-Rahim presented condolences, on behalf of PA Chairman Abu Mazen, to the families of the three terrorists who were killed by the IDF after murdering Rabbi Meir Avshalom Chai.  He gave the families condolence telegrams from Abu Mazen and told them to acknowledge them as martyrs of the Palestinian revolution.  He said, on Abu Mazen's behalf, that "The occupation authorities perpetrated an action that had been planned for some time and was the cold-blooded assassination of Fatah activists, which contravenes morality and the repeated, false claims about the apparent morality of the IDF.  Without doubt, the occupation authorities perpetrated a wild and barbaric assassination, maliciously and in cold blood."

Egypte en Israel onderscheppen wapens op weg naar Gazastrook

 

Er zijn gisteren door zowel Egypte als Israel (tweede artikel) wagens cq. boten met wapens onderschept. Het blijft dus nodig zowel op zee als op land alles wat de Gazastrook binnenkomt goed te controleren. Mensen die oproepen tot het beëindigen van de Israelische blokkade bedoelen vaak dat Israel met die controles moet stoppen. Egyptian security officials said Tuesday that Egypt's armed forces have seized five vehicles carrying weapons into the country from Sudan, apparently headed for Gaza.

The officials say the vehicles were intercepted inside Egypt Sunday near the border with Sudan, following a shootout during which the truck drivers fled. They said the trucks were carrying large quantities of mortars, rocket propelled grenades, rifles and explosives.
They said they were headed to Hamas-ruled Gaza through smuggling tunnels under the Gaza-Egypt border.
The officials spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity under government regulations.

Israeli intelligence officials say Sudan is a major route for Hamas weapons.
Last year Sudan accused Israel of carrying out airstrikes on smugglers inside Sudan. Israel did not comment on that report.
Earlier Tuesday, the Israel Navy seized a ship which was apparently carrying anti-ship missiles and other weapons meant from Gaza, believed to be sent from Iran.

Israel Navy forces found several anti-ship missiles on board the "Victoria" ship, which was believed to be smuggling weapons from Iran to militants in Gaza and was seized by IDF forces earlier Tuesday.

 "The Israel Navy operation prevented the smuggling of weapons which had strategic importance to the Gaza Strip," Israel Navy Deputy Commander Rani Ben-Yehuda said Tuesday. 
According to him, if the weapons were to reach terrorist organizations, they could have used the anti-ship missiles to strike Israel Navy ships as well as civilian ships in the Ashdod port.

Ben-Yehuda said that thus far IDF forces located two Chinese-made C-704 missiles with a range of 35 kilometers, noting the IDF believes that more missiles were hidden on the ship.The IDF estimates that the weapons and ammunition found on board the ship could reach 50 tons.
He said that weapons were smuggled from Iran to Syria where the ship collected them on its way to Turkey and then sailed to Egypt.

Ben-Yehuda also presented a Farsi-language manual for the missiles found among the ship cargo.
He stressed that he is convinced that neither Turkey nor Egypt knew what was hidden on the ship.

Elite troops from the Shayetet 13 naval commando unit took control of the "Victoria" ship earlier Tuesday without a struggle when it was around 200 nautical miles off Israel's coast, and towed it to the port in Ashdod.

The weapons smuggling shows an attempt by terrorist organizations in Gaza with Iranian and Syrian aid to improve their fighting capabilities against Israel's naval blockade.

In the Second Lebanon War, a C-802 anti-ship missile was fired by Hezbollah and struck an Israel Navy ship resulting in the death of four soldiers. Ben-Yehuda said he believed that the kind of missiles found Tuesday on the "Victoria" are already in the hands of Hezbollah, but not in the Gaza Strip.

Meldpunt MDI en CIDI doen aangifte tegen antisemitische haatsite

De website "Het Zuur" ben ik helaas al vaker tegengekomen en is ondanks herhaalde meldingen nog steeds online. Het is dieptriest dat er mensen zijn die dergelijke haat en leugens verspreiden, en het blijkt moeilijk om dit wettelijk aan te pakken. Als een blog of website al uit de lucht wordt gehaald na veel moeite, begint iemand doodleuk op een andere lokatie weer opnieuw. Toch moet de strijd tegen antisemitisme ook op deze praktische manier gevoerd worden, en is het niet voldoende alleen de ideeën te bestrijden en weerleggen.

Meldpunt doet aangifte vanwege anti-jodensites

(Novum) - Het Meldpunt Discriminatie Internet (MDI) heeft zondag aangifte gedaan tegen Jeroen de K. Deze man zit achter de website hetzuur.nl en enkele andere websites waarop de Holocaust wordt ontkend en antisemitische teksten te lezen zijn.

Een woordvoerder van het MDI laat weten dat er in de aangifte van zondag in totaal 87 antisemitische uitingen worden aangedragen. Het meldpunt zegt veel meldingen te hebben binnengekregen naar aanleiding van de aangifte tegen De K. van het Centrum Informatie en Documentatie Israël (CIDI) afgelopen week.

Het CIDI deed deze aangifte vanwege beledigende teksten op de websites tegen joden in het algemeen en minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Uri Rosenthal (VVD) in het bijzonder. Ook vertoont De K. de nazipropagandafilm Der Ewige Jude.

Het MDI deed al in 2009 aangifte tegen De K. Naar aanleiding hiervan is de man wel verhoord, maar dat heeft nog niet geleid tot een rechtszaak. Volgens het meldpunt is drukte bij de rechtbank daarvan een belangrijke oorzaak.

Zaak tegen website Het Zuur in nazomer

AMSTERDAM -  Naar verwachting in de nazomer zal de rechtszaak beginnen tegen de man achter website hetzuur.nl. Dat heeft een woordvoerder van het Openbaar Ministerie vrijdag laten weten.

De zaak tegen voormalig advocaat Jeroen de K. komt voort uit een aangifte die het Centrum Informatie en Documentatie Israël (CIDI) in 2009 heeft gedaan. Het CIDI deed deze week opnieuw aangifte van nieuwe beledigingen. Op de website staan artikelen met titels als 'Opdat u Joden haat' , 'Joden zullen verbranden' en 'Uri Rosenthal is een nazi' .

Behalve het CIDI heeft ook de Joodse Omroep aangifte gedaan omdat op de antisemitische website ook beelden van een programma van de omroep te zien zijn. Deze worden gebruikt om joden zwart te maken. Het Meldpunt Discriminatie Internet wil dat de website zo snel mogelijk wordt gesloten.

CIDI doet aangifte wegens antisemitsche uitingen over Rosenthal

Een man die in het verleden is veroordeeld wegens het stalken van de toenmalige premier Balkenende, richt nu zijn pijlen op minister Uri Rosenthal van Buitenlandse Zaken. Op zijn website plaatst hij beledigende teksten over Joden in het algemeen en Rosenthal in het bijzonder en vertoont hij de nazipropagandafilm Der Ewige Jude. CIDI deed dinsdag aangifte, maar vindt dat de website al eerder uit de lucht gehaald had moeten zijn.

In lange tirades met koppen als "De Jood Uri Rosenthal" beweert de man op zijn site onder meer dat 'de Joodsche intelligentsia de Holocaust zelf gewild en georganiseerd heeft'. Hij stelt Joden gelijk aan nazi's en spreekt van de 'Joods nazistische idealen van het Zionisme', van 'lokjodinnen' en de 'propagandanazi Ronny Nafthaniel'. "Afgelopen honderd jaar is er geen groter geteisem geweest dan 'de Joden'", schrijft hij.

 

De website in kwestie had allang uit de lucht kunnen zijn. Tegen uitingen op deze site is al in 2009 en daarna nog minstens eenmaal aangifte gedaan wegens antisemitisme door het Meldpunt Discriminatie Internet. De zaak is onderzocht en naar verluidt besloot het OM tot vervolging, maar de man heeft zich nog steeds niet voor de rechtbank hoeven verantwoorden. CIDI deed dinsdag aangifte van deze nieuwe serie antisemitische uitingen.

 

"Dit toont opnieuw de noodzaak van een snel lik-op-stukbeleid bij antisemitisme", zegt CIDI-directeur Ronny Naftaniel. CIDI heeft hierop opnieuw aangedrongen in een brief aan de Kamercommissie voor Binnenlandse Zaken, die woensdag opnieuw vergadert over de aanpak van antisemitisme. 

Thomas Lepeltak: "is het dan erg handig om een Joodse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken te hebben?"

 

Lepeltak is niet alleen commentator bij WNL's tv-programma Ochtendspits maar zit ook in het comité van aanbeveling van Gretta's Stop de Bezetting. Het is dan ook niet zo verwonderlijk dat hij minister Rosenthal op zijn Joodse afkomst en niet op zijn deskundigheid beoordeelt. Hiervoor is een naam, maar dat woord is inmiddels taboe geworden en kun je dus maar beter niet meer gebruiken. Ik ben benieuwd wat WNL van de zaak vindt en of het CIDI antwoord krijgt op haar vraag. En ik hoop dat hiermee eens te meer duidelijk wordt dat antise... oeps, nou gebruik ik het bijna toch, niet alleen een probleem is van links maar evenzeer van rechts en alles daar tussenin.

Vragen aan Lepeltak

Wat bedoelde Ochtendspits-commentator Thomas Lepeltak vandaag met zijn verontrustende vraag? CIDI vroeg hem en de WNL-redactie om toelichting. Het TV-programma De Ochtendspits is vrijdag blijkbaar goed bekeken: er kwamen veel klachten over het optreden van Thomas Lepeltak. Sprekend over de onderhandelingen met Libie over de vrijlating van de Nederlandse gijzelaars, zei Lepeltak: "Ik heb een hele pijnlijke vraag die ik bijna niet durf te stellen, maar eh in die onderhandelingen met het MiddenOosten, is het dan erg handig om een Joodse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken te hebben?"

Verschillende kijkers naar het WNL-programma vroegen zich af of Lepeltak met zijn vraag wilde zeggen dat minister Uri Rosenthal door zijn Joodse 'roots' ongeschikt is als minister van Buitenlandse Zaken. Kan de heer Lepeltak zijn vraag toelichten?, vroeg CIDI aan Lepeltak. En mocht hij dit denken, vindt hij dan ook dat andere Joodse politici van formaat vanwege hun Joodse afkomst ongeschikt waren voor hun werk?

 

Wij vragen ons af, vroeg CIDI vandaag per email aan de commentator, wat zijn oordeel is over bijvoorbeeld de voormalige leider van de Britse Conservatives Michael Howard, Madeleine Albright, die van 1997-2001 als eerste vrouw minister van BuZa werd in de VS, haar voorganger Henry Kissinger, de Argentijnse minister van BuZa Hector Timerman, de huidige leider van de Britse Labourpartij Edward Milliband en zijn broer, de voormalige minister van Buitenlandse Zaken David Miliband, diens Russische collega Yevgeny Primakov en natuurlijk niet te vergeten de Franse president Sarkozy en wijlen Bruno Kreisky, ooit bondskanselier van Oostenrijk.

 

Het Nederlandse kabinet bestaat uit elf ministers; waarom deze nadruk op de Joodse afkomst van Rosenthal? vraagt CIDI-directeur Ronny Naftaniel zich af. De onderhandelingen zouden even goed gevoerd kunnen worden door premier Rutte of minister Hillen van Defensie. Zou de afkomst van Rosenthal dan ook nog relevant zijn?

 

Ook aan de redactie van De Ochtendspits vroeg CIDI hoe zij over dit alles denkt. Wij houden u op de hoogte.

 

Palestijnen wijzen moord op kinderen af (en ontkennen eerdere moorden)

Het positieve nieuws is dat veel Palestijnen, inclusief de Hamas, nou zeggen dat ze geen kinderen doden en dit afkeuren. Het slechte nieuws is dat ook de 'gematigde' PA ontkent dat Palestijns geweld zich vaak (ook) tegen kinderen richt, en dat het doden van kinderen geregeld is voorgekomen. Bij veel zelfmoordaanslagen waren ook kinderen het slachtoffer (en dat wist de terrorist, want hij blies zich desondanks gewoon op) en er zijn ook eerdere schiet- en steekincidenten geweest waarbij hele gezinnen werden gedood, bijvoorbeeld in 2004 in de Gazastrook. Ook door Israelisch geweld zijn helaas al heel wat Palestijnse kinderen omgekomen, maar dat was nooit de intentie, al kun je erover discussieren of Israel soms (nog) meer had moeten doen om onschuldige slachtoffers te voorkomen.

Palestinian Arabs' new meme: "We would never kill children!"

A new meme has emerged from Palestinian Arab leaders in the wake of the massacre of the Fogel family.

From YNet Hebrew:

Riad Al-Malakhi, the Palestinian Foreign minister, visiting Cairo, said that his ministry condemns all violence against civilians. In an interview with the Palestinian official media agency "Wafa", he condemned those responsible for the attack, and said that "There was never a case in the past where a Palestinian killed a baby and slaughtered people in this manner, be it because of nationalistic motives, or those of revenge, which raises a question as to the quick blaming of the Palestinians by the Israeli side".

Hamas has adopted the same line:

Izzat al-Rishq, a member of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, denied the movement's involvement in the attack in the settlement of Itamar near Nablus, stressing that Hamas' and Palestinian resistance groups' policy is not to target children.

Given the previous cold-blooded murders of Koby Mandell, Yosef Ishran, infant Shalhevet Pass, the lionization by the PA leaders of Samir Kuntar who bashed in the head of a 4-year old girls and Dalal Mughrabi who killed 13 children, not to mention previous attacks on a bar mitzvah party, a pizza shop and an ice cream shop, these statements are nothing short of baldfaced lies.

The new meme is trying to sell the idea that the Fogels were murdered by - Jews! They are stressing that no major terror group has taken credit for the attack as proof that Arabs couldn't have done it. (The Al Aqsa Brigades seemed to have taken responsibility but they now deny it, and the Imad Mughniyeh group has claimed responsibility but it is unclear if they really exist.)

However ludicrous the idea that Palestinian Arab terrorists don't target children, it is nonetheless significant that (outside of Islamic Jihad) the major groups are implicitly or explicitly condemning the attack. That would not have happened during the height of the intifada.  Also, while there is some, I am not seeing too much praise for the attack in Arabic forums.

As far as I can tell, this is the first time that any attack on a settlement was met with anything but full pride and joy by the Palestinian Arab public, no matter who the victims were.

Hieronder een lijst van opruiende uitspraken, media uitlatingen en acties. Zelfmoorterroristen worden geëerd, opgeroepen tot geweld en Joden verketterd. Palestijnse Autoriteit medeverantwoordelijk voor slachting in Itamar

Incitement against Israel, which frequently turns into genuine anti-Semitic incitement, is an inseparable part of the fabric of life in the Palestinian Authority. Thus, anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic messages are regularly heard in both the private and official media and in mosque sermons, and are studied in school textbooks.

Terrorists are given an honored status and become models for emulation in Palestinian society, both in the media and via ceremonies held by insitutions affiliated with the PA.

Institutionalized and systematic incitement against Israel has never ceased in the PA,even during the height of the diplomatic process in the 1990s.

Examples from Recent Months

On 9.3.11, Abu Mazen's advisor Sabri Saidam, delivered a speech in which he emphasized that Palestinian weapons must be turned towards Israel. He demanded that the Palestinian people be attentive to the living conditions of martyrs' families and said that the anniversary of the death of Dalal Mughrabi (one of the perpetrators of 1978 coastal highway massacre) should be marked by inaugurating a square in her name in the city of El-Bireh.

On 6.3.11, the PA's official newspaper, Al Hayat Al-Jadida, published an item to the effect that the management of a youth club in Ramallah planned to hold a soccer tournament in memory of Wafa Idris, a suicide bomber.

On 9.2.11, the official Palestinian television station broadcast a clip from a campaign entitled "Women as Exemplars", during which Dalal Mughrabi (see above) was extolled. In the summer of 2010, several children's summer camps were named after her.

On 24.1.11, the Governor of Jenin issued a Presidential Grant worth $2,000 to the family of Palestinian terrorist, Khaldoun Samoudi, who was killed while trying to detonate two bombs against IDF soldiers at the Beka'ot Crossing.

On 2.1.11, Al Hayat Al-Jadida reported that Azzam Al-Ahmed, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, attended a gathering on the 46th anniversary of the establishment of Fatah, held in the village of Turah, south-west of Jenin, during which models of settlement buildings were blown up. He reviewed terrorist attacks that had been perpetrated by Fatah and said that, " Fatah is a mass movement which believed in popular revolution and wrested its right to use all means of resistance in order to achieve its aim."

On 30.12.10, Al Hayat Al-Jadida reported that Israel aspired to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to build the Third Temple on its ruins.

On 26.10.10, Palestinian television broadcast a documentary about the work of Palestinian medical teams including a fictitious scene in which an Israeli soldier shoots a Palestinian in the head.

On 6.10.10, Al Hayat Al-Jadida carried an interview with Palestinian Minister Amr Aloul in which the latter said that Israel is, "An apartheid state that carries out state terrorism against the Palestinians.

On 10.9.10, official Palestinian television broadcast a short film in which it was said that Jewish prayer at the Western Wall is, "a sin and impurity."

On 21.6.10, official Palestinian television broadcast a children's program in which it was saoid that, "The Jews are our enemies," and that, "Israeli soldiers are wild animals."

On 28.5.10, official Palestinian television broadcast a report on the family of a Palestinian security prisoner, during which her nieces were interviewed and said that they wanted to bear arms against Israel.

The "History of the Arabs and the World in the 20th Century" 12th-grade textbook, used in the PA, teaches about World War II. It includes Nazi ideology but does not mention the Holocaust at all.

On 10.3.10, Al Hayat Al-Jadida reported that the Palestinian Authority had postponed the inauguration of the Dalal Mughrabi Square in Ramallah following an official Israeli protest. This did not prevent dozens of young people from unofficially dedicating the square.A spokesman for the Palestinian security services said that the dedication of the Square had been postponed, "for technical reasons and not at Israel's request." He added that, "Neither israel nor anyone else is capable of preventing us from being proud of our history." PA Minister of Culture Saham Al-Barghouti said that, "It is our right to honor our martyrs and name a street after the martyr Dalal Mughrabi on the anniversary of her martyrdom. It is the right of the Palestinian people. However, the Israelis' interference with this right indicates how the Israelis violate our rights."

On 27.12.09, official Palestinian television reported that President's Office Director-General Tayib Abd A-Rahim presented condolences, on behalf of PA Chairman Abu Mazen, to the families of the three terrorists who were killed by the IDF after murdering Rabbi Meir Avshalom Chai. He gave the families condolence telegrams from Abu Mazen and told them to acknowledge them as martyrs of the Palestinian revolution. He said, on Abu Mazen's behalf, that "The occupation authorities perpetrated an action that had been planned for some time and was the cold-blooded assassination of Fatah activists, which contravenes morality and the repeated, false claims about the apparent morality of the IDF. Without doubt, the occupation authorities perpetrated a wild and barbaric assassination, maliciously and in cold blood."

 

 

Houding Westen vergroot Midden-Oostendrama

 

Terwijl de tsunami bij Japan in de media het Midden-Oosten heeft verdreven en Dries van Agt en sullige pro-Palestina groepjes prime-time zendtijd krijgen om leugens te verkondigen over Israels vermeende wandaden en producten die zogenaamd niet uit Israel zouden komen, hieronder een degelijke analyse van de situatie in een aantal landen in het Midden-Oosten. Gelukkig hebben we tegenwoordig internet en zijn we dus niet meer afhankelijk van het non-nieuws van de NOS, Pauw en Witteman en andere 'actualiteiten'rubrieken.

Houding Westen vergroot Midden-Oostendrama

De media-aandacht voor de crisis in het Midden-Oosten vermindert met de dag. Zelfs in Israël wordt het nieuws niet meer geopend met de ontwikkelingen in de Arabische landen of Iran.

Dat lijkt onterecht omdat er nog altijd sprake is van een uitbreiding van de crisis.

Het kan echter nog erger, de Nederlandse actualiteiten-talkshow Pauw en Witteman inviteerde de Nederlandse oud-premier Van Agt om zijn 'analyse' te geven over het Midden-Oosten.

Wat volgde was een onvoorstelbaar staaltje goochelen met feiten en morele waarden en eindigde - voorspelbaar- in een tirade tegen Israël.

Internationaal ging echter terecht de aandacht uit naar de burgeroorlog in Libië, waar Khadaffi een paar dramatische conclusies trok uit de westerse besluiteloosheid en tanks en vliegtuigen inzette tegen de bevolking.

Uit vrijwel alle delen van het Midden-Oosten blijven berichten binnenkomen die niet slechts in Israël voor slapeloze nachten zouden moeten zorgen.

 

Libië

Een van de meest onderbelichte aspecten in de Libische burgeroorlog is de houding van het Westen en vooral die van de Amerikaanse regering.

In het vorige artikel berichtten wij over sommige Europese politici en enkele pittige uitspraken van de Amerikaanse minister van buitenlandse zaken Clinton. Die zei onder andere, dat Iran bezig is om het machtsvacuüm in het Midden-Oosten op te vullen en waarschuwde voor de gevolgen daarvan.

Ongeveer tegelijkertijd berichtte de Washington Post over een geheel andere opstelling van de regering Obama.

In het Washington Postartikel zei een hoge official in het Witte Huis dat de regering Obama zich voorbereidt op het vooruitzicht dat meer islamistische regeringen landen in het Midden-Oosten en Afrika zullen overnemen.

Dit was niet de eerste keer dat er tegenstrijdige geluiden uit het Witte Huis kwamen in de huidige crisis. Eerder gebeurde dat tijdens de Egyptische opstand.  

Het lijkt er sterk op dat de Ghadaffi dit heeft opgevat als een teken dat hij carte blanche heeft in de brute wijze waarop hij zijn tegenstanders te lijf gaat.

Wij vroegen de Amerikaans Israëlische Midden-Oostenexpert professor Rubin van het Gloria Center van IDC in Herzliyah om commentaar over de wijze waarop de Amerikaanse regering opereert.

Rubin die in ook een boek schreef over de wijze waarop de Amerikaanse buitenlandse politiek tot stand komt schreef per e-mail onder meer het volgende:

 

"The Obama administration has an internal split. On one hand are the people with relatively more experience and a more realistic view of the situation. This would include Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. This is certainly true for the uniformed military. If one reads their remarks carefully one often sees deviations from the White House line. They tend to see Iran as more of a threat and favor(ed) alignments with existing Arab regimes while being more skeptical of change and of Islamist groups.

They seem to have been opposed to openly and quickly throwing Mubarak's regime--not just Mubarak himself--under the bus. That approach is contrary to many decades of U.S. practice.

 

The alternative camp is focused on the National Security Council, not so much the current advisor but some of the more junior and White House staff who have strong ideological views and little experience. Samantha Power is a good example with strong, even wacky, views.  A prominent figure here is John Brennan, the president's advisor on terrorism and apparently also on Islamism. Brennan has long been an active advocate of the "win over the moderate Islamists idea". He has been outspoken regarding Hizballah and has apparently said in private he'd like to do the same with Hamas but knows that the pro-Israel forces in Congress and elsewhere make that impossible. The former national security advisor, Jones, also had this perspective.

 

A central issue in the American policymaking process is always who in an administration has the greatest influence on the president. Usually it is either the secretary of state or the national security advisor. At present, though, the secretary of state has little influence while the national security advisor is very weak. That means the president, with his personal relatively junior White House advisors are making it up as they go along".  

 

Richard Baehr, de politieke analyst van The American Thinker onderschrijft deze analyse. Hij schreef ons dat Obama een ideoloog is die wars is van de klassieke Amerikaanse buitenlandse politiek (c.q. militaire interventie) en voornamelijk afgaat op zijn eigen analyses.

The Jerusalem Post berichtte op 10 maart dat een anonieme hoge Europese functionaris had verklaard dat de regering Obama (opnieuw) haar politiek ten aanzien van het Midden-Oosten aan het herzien is.

De oppositie in Libie lijkt echter vastbesloten om door te gaan tot Khadaffi's regime valt. Vandaag bleek dat men in het bezit is van Grad raketten:

Egypte

In Egypte duurt de onrust voort. Kopten rapporteren regelmatig aanvallen door moslims. Nadat een kerk in Sool nabij Helwan was aangevallen en in vlammen was opgegaan, protesteerden kopten in diverse plaatsen in Egypte.  De aanval op de kerk kwam enige uren nadat een plaatselijke imam had gezegd dat er geen plaats was voor christenen in Sool.

Volgens een contact in Egypte riepen de aanvallers  "Allah HuAhbar en dat de christenen ongelovigen en Joden waren". Het zelfde contact maakte later melding van de vlucht van 7000 christenen uit Sool.  In een ander incident bestormden leden van het Moslim Broederschap een christelijke school in de stad Asayut. Bij dit incident voorkwam het Egyptische leger erger.

Bij een van die demonstraties openden moslims het vuur en vielen er dertien doden. Het is opmerkelijk dat een deel van de media de berichten over aanvallen op kopten nog altijd weergeven als "sektarische gevechten" terwijl er sprake is van aanvallen op kopten.

Op het Tahrirplein in Cairo werd deze week opnieuw gevochten tussen aanhangers van Moebarak en reformisten. Sommigen brachten messen en zelfs zwaarden mee voor de strijd. Al Ahram berichtte dat de voorraad medische behoeften in Egypte bijna uitgeput is. Dit heeft onder andere te maken met aanhoudende stakingen.

Op het politieke front was er ook nieuws dat weinig reden gaf tot geruststelling.

De eerste buitenlandse leider die door de Egyptische regering werd uitgenodigd voor een staatsbezoek was de Soedanese president Al Bashir.  

Al Bashir wordt door het ICC gezocht wegens oorlogsmisdaden in Darfur.

 

De woordvoerder voor Europa van het Moslim Broederschap, Kamal El Helbawy, bezocht deze week Iran. Daar vertelde hij zijn gasten dat Egypte een echte islamitische staat moet worden, zoals Iran.

Hij verklaarde verder dat hij iedere dag bad dat Israël van de kaart geveegd zou worden.

Daar staat tegenover dat de voornaamste kandidaat voor het presidentschap in Egypte, Amr Moussa, heeft verklaard dat Egypte het vredesverdrag met Israël moet handhaven.

De Israëlische regering heeft generaal majoor Amos Gilad (een adviseur voor defensie) naar Cairo gestuurd voor besprekingen met generaal Tantawy, de leider van de militaire junta. Een van de gespreksonderwerpen zal ongetwijfeld het voortduren van de afsluiting van de gastoevoer naar Israel zijn. Sinds de aanslag op een gasstation in de Sinai begin februari is de schade hersteld maar de gasleverantie naar Israel niet.

 

Iran

Iran kwam deze week in Israël ook op een andere wijze in het nieuws.

De Iraanse onderminister van buitenlandse zaken bezocht Zuid-Libanon en hield een provocatieve toespraak vlak bij het door Israël gebouwde elektronische grenshek.

De commandant van de Iraanse Basiji (Revolutionaire Garde) Mohammed Reza Nagdi zei deze week dat binnenkort de olievoorraad in het Midden-Oosten geheel onder de controle van moslims zal komen die onder het Iraanse leiderschap staan. Daarbij doelde hij ongetwijfeld op het door sjiieten bevolkte olierijke deel van Saoedi-Arabië, waar de laatste weken regelmatig onrust is geweest en op 11 maart een opstand gepland is.

Maar ook in Koeweit werden deze week de eerste tekenen van een opstand waargenomen. Koeweit is de vierde olieproducent in de wereld.

Iraanse Koerden hebben opgeroepen om een opstand te beginnen die een einde moet brengen aan het islamitische regime in Teheran.

De leiders van de Koerdische beweging in Iran zeggen dat de oppositie in Iran slechts hervormingen wil.

De Koerden in Iran vormen een belangrijke minderheid en strijden met de Iraakse, en Turkse Koerden voor een onafhankelijke staat. 

De Israëlische verslaggever Itai Angel  van het programma Oevda (Feit) bezocht onlangs de Koerden in Noord-Irak en Turkije. Daar stuitte hij op onverwachte steun voor Israël. Koerdische rebellen verklaarden dat Israël voor hen een voorbeeld is waarop zij hun toekomstige staat willen baseren.

Deze ervaring stond in schril contrast tot zijn ervaring in Turkije waar hij voor zijn leven moest vrezen.

Uit Iran blijven overigens beelden komen waaruit valt op te maken dat de onrust voortduurt na de (herroepen) berichten over de gevangenneming van de twee oppositie leiders Moussavi en Kharroubi.

 

Saoedi-Arabië en andere landen

In Saoedie-Arabië werd deze week een ban afgekondigd op demonstraties. Het regime kreeg daarop internationale kritiek te verduren.

In een verklaring zei de Saoedische minister van buitenlandse zaken dat buitenlandse inmenging in de interne aangelegenheden van het land niet zal worden getolereerd.

De vraag rijst nu of het regime van koning Fahd nog in staat is om de geest in de fles terug te krijgen.

Afgaande op beelden die ons deze week bereikten uit Saoedi-Arabië lijkt het erop dat de geplande opstand al begonnen is. Donderdagavond 10 maart werd voor het eerst vanuit de stad Qatif melding gemaakt van schoten en geweld tijdens een nieuwe demonstratie.

In Jordanië werden nieuwe protesten gemeld, al-Qaida supporters hielden een protestmars waarin zij de invoering van de Sharia eisten.

Uit Turkije komen berichten dat de regering van premier Erdogan journalisten en oppositieleden intimideert.

Dat gebeurt door middel van invallen door de Turkse politie. Twee weken geleden werden al drie journalisten veroordeeld tot gevangenisstraf vanwege kritische artikelen die zij schreven voor een website van de oppositie.

 

Oman 

De situatie in het Midden-Oosten bewijst dat de traditionele focus op het Palestijns-Israëlische conflict in het Westen voorbij ging aan de veel grotere problemen in de Arabische wereld en Iran. Desondanks blijven sommige media in Nederland volharden in hun obsessie met Israël.

Een duidelijk voorbeeld hiervan was de uitzending van de populaire talkshow Pauw en Witteman op 7 maart jl.

Oud premier Van Agt werd in het programma gepresenteerd als een deskundige op het gebied van het Palestijns Israëlische conflict.

Ook gaf hij zijn visie op de situatie in Oman waar koningin Beatrix op bezoek ging.

Hij vond het koninklijk bezoek aan Oman geen enkel probleem, en bagatelliseerde het 'rottige incident waarbij een dode viel'.

Voor Van Agt staan de economische belangen van Nederland in Oman voorop.

De oud-premier gaf naast het vermogen onwaarheden als glasharde feiten te presenteren, blijk van een onthutsende dubbele standaard in moreel opzicht.

Hij veroordeelt enerzijds furieus allerlei vermeende Israëlische wandaden, maar omschreef anderzijds Oman als een "fijn land" waar hij geen problemen zag.

 

Het 'fijne land' waar van Agt over sprak, heeft echter een lange geschiedenis van schendingen van de fundamentele mensenrechten.

Zo werden in 1994 al honderden opponenten van het Omaanse regime opgepakt. Een jaar later werd een auto ongeluk, waarbij de sultan betrokken was, gebruikt om opnieuw tientallen Omaanse burgers te arresteren wegens vermeende betrokkenheid bij 'de aanslag'

Kinderen tussen 2 en 14 jaar worden in Oman verhandeld met de bedoeling om als jockeys gebruikt te worden in kameelraces. Meisjes tussen de 13 en 17 jaar worden in Oman verhandeld om als prostituees in bordelen te werken.

Buitenlandse werknemers worden niet zelden tegen hun wil vastgehouden en krijgen vaak niet betaald. Ook zijn zij het slachtoffer van slavernij en seksuele en fysieke intimidatie.

Amnesty International publiceerde op 1 maart jl. een rapport over de huidige onrust in Oman en bekritiseerde de regering over het doden van 6 (!) demonstranten die tegen de armoede en corruptie protesteerden. De organisatie bekritiseerde Oman verder voor het gebruik van excessief geweld tegen de betogers, daarbij doelde men op het gebruik van traangas en rubber kogels tegen vreedzame demonstranten. Er is geen wet die vrouwenmishandeling strafbaar stelt. Als gevolg hiervan doen vrouwen geen aangifte van mishandeling, terwijl bekend is dat het een wijdverspreid verschijnsel is in het land.

Een OECD rapport laat zien dat besnijdenis bij vrouwen in Oman voorkomt. Vrouwen mogen het land niet verlaten zonder toestemming vooraf van hun echtgenoot. Homoseksuele relaties zijn verboden in Oman, overtreding van het gebod levert een forse gevangenisstraf op. Het land kent een werkloosheidcijfer van boven de 15 %.

Het front 

Het echte 'front' in het Midden-Oosten ligt volgens de Nederlandse oud-premier echter in Israël waar hij de West Bank bezocht.                        
Hij maakte geen melding van grote veranderingen ten goede in het dagelijks leven op de West Bank sinds het einde van de Tweede Intifada. Al bij de introductie van zijn verhaal over de West Bank gaf Van Agt blijk met een vooringenomen standpunt te zijn afgereisd. Hij zei dat hij wist dat hij veel ongerechtigheden zou aantreffen en gaf Israël de schuld van alle problemen. Wat volgde was een verslag dat vol zat met onwaarheden. Zo beweerde hij dat Israël schiet op activisten tijdens demonstraties bij wat hij noemt 'de muur' in Bi'ilin.
Die demonstraties waren volledig geweldloos aldus Van Agt - Geweldloos??  De beelden van een video die tijdens een van die demonstraties door activisten werden geschoten geven een geheel ander beeld. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEWqOsPLqnA            
De IDF zou volgens Van Agt met rubber- en zelfs echte kogels schieten op de demonstranten en de "skunk" die het Israëlische leger gebruikte was een 'special soort traangas'. De beelden op de video zijn echter representatief voor de wijze waarop de IDF het geweld bij deze demonstraties beantwoordt en het traangas dat men gebruikt is ook standaard bij de Nederlandse politie.
Het zogenaamde 'speciale gas skunk' is niet anders dan een sterk stinkende vernevelde vloeibare substantie die de lust om geweld te gebruiken sterk vermindert.

De "muur" zelf was gebouwd met een smoes, aldus Van Agt en had als doel zoveel mogelijk "Palestijns" land te confisqueren.
De kaart bij dit artikel laat zien dat het veiligheidshek voor het grootste deel de 1948 bestandslijnen volgt.

En zo ging het ongeveer tien minuten door zonder dat Van Agt effectief werd geconfronteerd met de feiten of kritische vragen door zijn interviewers.

 

Van Agt is dus geen expert op enig gebied waar om het Midden-Oosten gaat.

De aandacht die hij krijgt is volledig gebaseerd op zijn status als oud-premier en zijn verbale vermogens. Zijn luiheid waar het om kennis van de materie gaat was echter al legendarisch toen hij nog actief was in de Nederlandse politiek.

 

De vraag die zich aandient is, waarom de Nederlandse media de leugens en extreme denkbeelden van de man blijven presenteren als expertise.

Zelfs in Arabische landen zijn nu mensen die de waarheid onder ogen zien. Neem bijvoorbeeld een Saoedische marineofficier die onlangs de moed had Arabieren de waarheid te zeggen in de krant Arab News.

Hij zei in dat artikel onder meer het volgende: 

 

"To this day, I see Arabs blaming Israelis for young Arab drug addicts, their poor education, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, bad roads, corruption, lack of democracy, unemployment, 9/11, the division of Sudan, the upheaval in Tunisia and the unrest in Egypt. If Israel can do all these things, then the Israelis are either super humans or we simply enjoy blaming others for our failings".

De Nederlandse media zouden er goed aan doen om deze eerlijkheid over te nemen. Een goed begin zou zijn om echte experts aan het woord te laten en het volledige nieuws te brengen over de werkelijke problemen in het Midden-Oosten.
