Troop's alertness prevents terror attack: Two pipe bombs were found Sunday morning in a parcel carried by a Palestinian man upon his arrival at the Hawara checkpoint near the West Bank city of Nablus.
The explosive devices were detonated in a controlled manner, without causing any injuries.
The Palestinian arrived at the checkpoint in possession of a bag which raised the soldiers' suspicion. A sapper dispatched to the area found two small pipe bombs in the parcel and detonated them in a controlled manner.
The Palestinian was taken in for questioning by security forces.
About two weeks ago, a Palestinian youth was arrested at the checkpoint after pulling out a 10-centimeter (4-inch) knife and attempting to stab a soldier. The soldier cocked his weapon, and the terrorist let go of the knife.
Two days earlier, a Palestinian woman poured acid on a soldier stationed at the same checkpoint. The soldier was lightly to moderately injured and may lose eyesight in one of his eyes.
The woman was detained for questioning. She was believed to be the same woman who hurled an acidic substance on a soldier at the checkpoint two weeks earlier.
