Zie: Hoe koosjer is slachten?

Hoe koosjer is slachten?

IMO Blog, 20 april 2011

http://www.zionism-israel.com/blog/archives/00000546.html

Yalla Peace: Pro-democracy protests vs protests of anger

Demonstrators across the region have demanded change and, most importantly, freedom. But can they handle democracy?

When I first expressed concern that the protesters in Egypt needed some support to implement democracy, I was immediately pilloried by critics who said I was being unfair.

What the protesters were doing was to demand freedom, they railed at me, as if somehow questioning the events was immoral or, as Arabs say, haram [forbidden].

Well, what I wrote was that the people of the Arab world have no experience in democracy. They have been raised in environments of repression, where free speech is stifled and punished. And I asked, how can they achieve genuine democracy on their own?

Middle East tyrants routinely and swiftly imprisoned, punished, or killed anyone who criticized their governments. Criticism of a government is the fundamental basis of the free speech provision of a true democracy. The crackdowns were so frequent that it became routine and a rare thing to report.

The only free speech tolerated by Middle East dictatorships was to criticize the West, the Christian world or Israel. Later, with the rise of more liberal broadcast news outlets like Al-Jazeera, the media began criticizing other Arab countries, but not the ones that host them.Satellite channels Al-Jazeera is based in Qatar while Al-Arabiyya is based in Dubai, part-owned by a Saudi media company.

The protesters had no experience in democracy yet the world watched in awe with great expectations, hoping it would miraculously evolve.

But how can we expect people who have no experience in democracy to implement democracy? Can efforts at democracy even survive? Democracy has a higher chance of failing in the Middle East than in any other region.

AMERICA HAS been trying to implement democracy in Iraq since it invaded the country in March 2003, and it has failed. Iraq has a "government," but it's not a democracy where the citizens define their leadership. The leaders in Iraq were handpicked by the United States.

So how can anyone expect democracy to just suddenly appear in Egypt, even after protests resulted in the removal of a dictator like President Husni Mubarak?

The Arabs live in a dream world controlled by the lowest common denominator of peer pressure fanaticism. If you express support, for example, for peace based on compromise with Israel, you are vilified and called "defeatist" by the fanatics who are a minority voice in the Arab community but the loudest. The majority voices, who are moderates, are not used to speaking their minds and they remain silent.

Fanatics use democracy in the West to voice hatred and support radicalism in the Middle East. That's why the fanatics do a better job of PR than the moderates.

The result is the few voices of the extremists appear to be the majority, when they are not, because in the Middle East, perception is reality.

In Egypt, the protesters toppled Mubarak, a tyrant who accumulated so much wealth, the media reports, it is in the billions. But, did the protesters topple the mindset caused by a lifetime of oppression and the denial of freedom? Will Mubarak be replaced by the will of the people or just by a new, more cunning dictatorship?

Violence often becomes the primary means of responding to things that people do not like in the Middle East. If you say something that the extremists do not like, rather than conduct a debate in the local media, extremists simply intimidate you into silence (as they often try unsuccessfully with me) or they just try to kill you, as they did to Juliano Mer-Khamis, the actor whose Jewish mother fought for Palestinian rights and whose Palestinian father taught him the lessons of peaceful coexistence.

Now, of course, we are watching the post-Mubarak era transform from a tyranny. But is it transforming to democracy?

Last week, the ruling military junta that has taken the reins of power in Egypt have arrested an Egyptian blogger while the future of the real criminal dictator Mubarak remains in question.Mubarak has been allowed to express his views condemning his critics and vowing to take anyone who calls him corrupt to court.

What the people of Egypt lack is what they need. Not only must they topple a dictator, but they also must be able to replace it with true democracy where voices are allowed to speak freely on any topic. There needs to be a tolerance for free speech.

Free speech in an environment of intolerance is not free speech at all. And, it will not result in democracy.

I wish for real democracy in Egypt and throughout the Middle East.

http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1012/Binnenland/article/detail/579266/2011/04/18/Criticus-Wilders-nu-zelf-voor-rechter-wegens-haatzaaien.dhtml

(redactie)

Hoe vreedzaam was pro-Palestijnse 'vredesactivist' Vittorio Arrigoni?

Hoe vreedzaam was 'vredesactivist' Vittorio Arrigoni?

So what is on his arm?

Since Arrigoni is being called a humanitarian and peace activist, one can imagine it says something like "No more war" or "Peace forever" or maybe "Mom" or  "I love puppies."

However, this modern martyr who was killed by the very people he loved and supported chose a different message to permanently ink on his arm.

It says "Moqowama." That means "resistance."

The very same word that Palestinian Arab terrorists use to describe suicide bombings, rocket attacks against civilians and everything else they do to target innocent Israelis.

That fact that he chose that word, from all the words in the world, to decorate his body says everything you need to know about how peaceful and humanitarian he was.

--------------

He never had anything bad to say about Hamas. He never campaigned for Arab countries to stop their discrimination against Palestinian Arabs. He never spoke a word demanding that "refugee camps" in Gaza be dismantled and real homes built.

(...)

So-called "Pro-Palestinian activists" are not motivated by love. If they were, they would act completely differently. So the murders of Arrigoni and Juliano Mer-Khamis - done by the people they supposedly love - will not make a dent in far leftist "support" for PalArabs, because they don't support them in any real way.

They only have a shared hate for Israel.

One last cartoon on Arrigoni's Facebook page is stunning in its irony, an irony that his fellow activists will never, ever get:

UPDATE: One more lovely photo that Vittorio thought was wonderful: (h/t Kramerica)

His heart was overflowing with love.

To be clear...he didn't deserve to die. But he doesn't deserve to be remembered as a person who cared one bit about peace or human rights, either.

 He was a hater.
-----------------------

~~~~~~~~~~
An Israeli conspiracy that never existed
I have, since childhood, been hearing about an invisible thing called the Israeli conspiracy.
It is always said that Israel did this and Israel did that. What is worse is when I hear that Israel is planning to do that. So, if we already know what Israel is planning to do, then why not either stop it or avoid it. The biggest conspiracy I heard regarding the Arabs and the Israelis is the humiliating defeat of June 1967. The Egyptians blamed everybody but themselves for the defeat. They insisted on speaking about why some planes came from the north and not from the east. They insisted that they were American Navy planes attacking Egypt. Did not the military analysts hear about evasive maneuvers, or did they expect the air force to fly like commercial airlines by taking the shortest and direct routes.
It turned out that the Egyptian forces were commanded by Gamal Abdel Nasser who only held the rank of major. Hours before the Israeli attack, all air defense sites were told to be on hold because Field Marshal Abdulhakim Amer's plane was in the air. So, it was not an Israeli conspiracy that defeated the Egyptians, it was the poor planning and having a tired army coming back from Yemen tasked to go to a war that even Nasser did not know how to manage.
That was Egypt in 1967, but what about the Egyptian uprising of 2011? Was it the Egyptians or outside forces? The Egyptian leadership used to call Al Jazeera the match box. The channel's media center in Qatar is so small that people used to wonder why regional leaders were worried about such a small media building, one that is small as a match box. It turned out that the Egyptian authorities had Al Jazeera on the top list of places to close. There was also no Israeli media center and Israel has no interest in seeing an unstable Egypt. Thomas Friedman once said that Al Jazeera should have been established in Egypt, not Qatar.
Egypt is a country whose media should have been at the front of providing information. However, Egyptians living inside the country and abroad are glued to foreign news outlets. Let us not doubt the Egyptians in their sincere request for change. We cannot accuse 80 million Egyptians of being toys in foreign hands.
To this day, I see Arabs blaming Israelis for young Arab drug addicts, their poor education, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, bad roads, corruption, lack of democracy, unemployment, 9/11, the division of Sudan, the upheaval in Tunisia and the unrest in Egypt. If Israel can do all these things, then the Israelis are either super humans or we simply enjoy blaming others for our failings.
The books of history indicate that the Arabs would have been able to get back the Golan Heights, Sinai, the West Bank and all the 1967 boundaries if Gamal Abdel Nasser made just one phone call to Israel and admitted defeat two days after the June 1967 war. And fewer Palestinians would have been scattered all over. But, we the Arabs never admit defeat.
The Arab world is in a state of unrest nowadays. Egypt is the largest country in the Arab world with 82 million people. If it shakes, then the whole Arab world will shake. It is not time to point fingers at either the West or Israel. Each country has an agenda to benefit its people. Arabs must think what is best for their people, not their leaders. Israel did not open a European bank account for Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali. He did, and where did the money come from? Israel did not hide the billions of dollars in Iraq used by Saddam Hussein while the Iraqis were starving. Saddam did.
You can agree or disagree, Israel is a country that has the best education system in the Middle East and a per capita income of more than $28,000.
The Arabs and Muslims must get rid of the notion that the whole world is conspiring to destroy them. The Arab world is rich in raw materials, rivers, fertile land, wealth and educated people. We must concentrate on education, health care, infrastructure, transparency and open channels between the rulers and the ruled. It is very sad to see Iraq, one of the richest countries in mineral resources, water and educated people, having millions struggle like refugees. It is also sad to see Yemen wasting 40 percent of its water resources to grow qat, just as it is sad to see a country like Lebanon that has the potential to be an attractive tourist spot being fractured because of vested interests, not national interests. Why have we failed to solve the flood problem in Jeddah with all the time and money our government has allocated for the city?
Linda Heard wrote an article in Arab News on Nov. 8, 2010, titled "Israel is digging its own grave." Yes, the Israelis are digging a grave. But for whom is the grave being dug for? I am sure it is not for the Israelis.
Moordenaars Fogel familie Itamar - geen Thai maar Palestijnen
Joop.nl en andere anti-Israel sites namen vorige maand gretig een totaal ongefundeerd bericht uit het Palestijnse Ma'an nieuws over dat mogelijk Thaise gastarbeiders achter de brute moord op een gezin uit Itamar zouden zitten. President Abbas en de PA beklaagden zich erover dat Israel er maar gelijk vanuit ging dat er Palestijnen achter zaten, terwijl dat helemaal niet zeker was en Palestijnen niet tot zoiets in staat zijn, en het NOS journaal zei dat 'volgens Israel' Palestijnen het gezin hadden vermoord. Met andere woorden, er werd weer eens volop twijfel gezaaid over wat Israelische bronnen meldden. Nu blijkt dat zij gelijk hadden: twee Palestijnen van het aan Fatah gelieerde PFLP hebben de moord gepleegd. Zij hebben geen spijt van hun daad en kregen bovendien hulp van verschillende andere mensen, die voor een deel ook bij de PFLP zaten en/of al eerder bij geweld tegen Israelische burgers betrokken waren. Misschien dat Joop.nl en al die anderen eventjes kunnen melden dat Israel dus toch gelijk had en Ma'an maar wat riep?
http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2011/04/fogel-family-murderers-arrested-they.html
From JPost:
The IDF Spokesperson on Sunday confirmed the arrest of two Palestinians, one a minor, from Awarta, in the March murder of five Fogel family members in their home in the Itamar settlement. The arrest was a joint IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) operation.
The suspects committed the crime for nationalistic reasons, and according to Army Radio, admitted to the crime without expressing remorse. Six others have been remanded on suspicion of involvement in the murders.
According to Shin Bet findings, the two teens, 18-year-old Hakem Awwad and 19-year-old Amjad Awwad, carried out the crime based on their own convictions and without direction by any specific political or terrorist organization.
On the Friday of the murders, the two reportedly met at 3:00 p.m. and planned to carry out the murder. At 9:00 p.m. they met again, equipped with knives, and broke into the Itamar settlement. The two broke into one home, which was empty, and stole an M16 rifle. Afterward, they went to the Fogel family home.
The teenage suspects proceeded to murder two of the children by stabbing, and then entered the parents' bedroom. Udi and Ruti Fogel awoke to the murderers' presence, and began to struggle with them. In the end, the suspects gained control and murdered them as well.
The two then left the house. One of the suspects returned and murdered the three-month-old baby Hadas, taking an M16 from the house.
According to Israel Radio, Amjad said that he was unaware that there were two other children in the house, and that if he knew, he would have stabbed them as well.
Following the incident, the two suspects involved five others, mostly relatives, to help cover up their crime. Hakem's uncle, Saleh, reportedly hid the knives, burned their clothing from the night of the murders, and brought the stolen weapons to Ramallah resident Jad Obeid.
Ha'aretz adds more details, slightly at odds with JPost's:
The two suspects, who are unrelated to one another, were identified as members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine along with several members of their family.
Shin Bet investigators have at this point not identified the murder as being carried out under the auspices of the Popular Front organization. According to what is currently known, the murders were carried out independently by the two suspects.
According to the investigation, it took the suspects about ten minutes to cut the fence which separates the settlement of Itamar from the Palestinian village of Awarta. They climbed the security barrier at the settlement unnoticed and walked about 400 meters into the settlement. Once inside the settlement, they broke into an empty home and stole an M-16 rifle, a weapons cartridge, a vest and a helmet before proceeding to the Fogel family's home.
So there were two fences between 'Awarta and Itamar; they cut one and climbed the second.
Before entering the house, the suspects noticed Yoav and Elad Fogel in the home's window. Yoav and Elad were the first to be stabbed after the suspect entered the home. The suspects then entered the parents' room. Ehud and Ruth tried to fight off the attackers, but were eventually overcome and stabbed to death. Ruth was also shot, but due to the weather at the time of the murder, the gunshots were not heard. The suspects fled the home, fearing that the gunshots had been heard.
Outside of the home, the suspects realized that their gunshots had gone unnoticed and they had not yet been discovered. Amjad Awad subsequently reentered the home in order to steal an additional M-16 rifle that was there. Back inside the parents' room, Awad noticed three-month-old Hadas and stabbed her to death. While leaving the home once more, the suspect noticed that there were more children but apparently figured that he was running out of time. The lives of Roi Fogel, 8, and Yishai Fogel, 2, were spared.
There have been many articles since the murders by anti-Israel writers saying that Jews had killed the Fogels, or foreign workers in the settlements (there were none,) or that the IDF was unfairly searching the village of 'Awarta without any evidence.
None of them will retract their lies, of course.
Arrestatie van Palestijnse moordenaars familie Itamar
Het heeft even geduurd, maar Israel heeft de moordenaars van het gezin Fogel in Itamar gevonden. En verrassing: het gaat niet om een Thaise gastarbeider die gefrustreerd was over zijn slechte behandeling of lage loon, en het ging ook niet om een familie-vete binnen het dorp. De moordenaars zijn beiden Palestijnen en lid van het Volksfront voor de Bevrijding van Palestina (PFLP).
On March 11, Hakim and Amjad set out for Itamar, armed with knives and tools to cut the perimeter fence and cover their tracks.  They crossed from Awarta to Itamar and climbed/jumped over the fence.  Once inside Itamar, they proceeded to approach the first row of houses.  They broke into a home adjacent to the Fogel residence but found nobody inside.  They stole an M-16, clips and a flak jacket.  They exited the home and thereupon burst into the Fogel residence. Having spotted children while still outside, they murdered 11-year-old Yoav and 4-year-old Elad.  The assailants thereupon entered the bedroom where the parents, Ruth and Udi, were sleeping with 3-month-old Hadas and murdered all three, following a struggle.  Before leaving the house, the murderers stole another M-16.
The murderers returned to Awarta on foot and went to the home of Hakim's uncle, PFLP militant Salah E-Sin Awad, and informed him of what they had done.  Salah helped them hide the stolen weapons and knives, burn their bloody clothes.  During the investigation, it arose that various members of their families were extensively involved in helping them and were fully aware of what they had done.
Details on Murderers of Five Members of the Fogel Family
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Office)
Following the 11.3.11 murders of five members of the Fogel family in the Samarian community of Itamar, the ISA, the IDF and the Israel Police began a joint operation to apprehend the murderers.  During the operation, dozens of suspects from Awarta - approximately 2 kilometers southwest of Itamar - were detained for questioning.  The investigation and intelligence efforts led to the arrest of two young men, residents of Awarta, who confessed to planning and perpetrating the murders, and reconstructed them:
Hakim Maazan Niyad Awad, born in 1993, a minor under Israeli law, was arrested on 5.4.11.  A high school student, he is affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).  He was involved in the October 2010 stabbing of youths from Awarta; the motive was a personal dispute.
Awad's father, Maazan, is a PFLP terrorist who, in the late 1990's, served approximately five years in a Palestinian Authority prison in connection with the murder of his niece and the burning of her body.
Awad's uncle, Jibril Awad, was a PFLP terrorist who was killed in a December 2003 clash with IDF soldiers.  He had been involved in the 20.6.02 terrorist attack in Itamar, in which Rachel Shabo (40) and three of her children (Avishai - 5, Zvika - 13 and Neria - 16), and their neighbor Yosef Twito (31), were murdered.
Amjad Muhammad Fawzi Awad, born in 1992, was arrested on 10.4.11.  A student, he is affiliated with the PFLP.  He had previously worked as a laborer in Israel.
Hakim and Amjad planned to perpetrate a terrorist attack in Itamar several days before March 11.  To this end, they tried to acquire a firearm.  They turned to Muhammad Said Awad (now under arrest), a PFLP militant in Awarta, and asked that he procure weapons for them; he did not do so.
On March 11, Hakim and Amjad set out for Itamar, armed with knives and tools to cut the perimeter fence and cover their tracks.  They crossed from Awarta to Itamar and climbed/jumped over the fence.  Once inside Itamar, they proceeded to approach the first row of houses.  They broke into a home adjacent to the Fogel residence but found nobody inside.  They stole an M-16, clips and a flak jacket.  They exited the home and thereupon burst into the Fogel residence. The murderers returned to Awarta on foot and went to the home of Hakim's uncle, PFLP militant Salah E-Sin Awad, and informed him of what they had done.  Salah helped them hide the stolen weapons and knives, burn their bloody clothes.  During the investigation, it arose that various members of their families were extensively involved in helping them and were fully aware of what they had done.
After March 11, the murderers returned to their daily routines.  Salah gave the stolen weapons to Jihad Abid, a resident of Ramallah, who hid them in his home.  The latter was arrested on 14.4.11; the weapons were recovered.
Arrested as accomplices were:
* Salah Aladin Salim Awad - born in 1979, a PFLP militant, Hakim's uncle;
* Hassan Salim Awad - born in 1972, a PFLP militant, Hakim's uncle;
* Maazan Niyaz Awad - born in 1967, a PFLP militant, Hakim's father;
* Jihad Abid - born in 1979, friend of Salah Awad, who hid the stolen weapons for Salah; and
* Muhammad Said Awad - born in 1984, a PFLP militant, whom Hakim and Amjad asked to provide them with a weapon.
The investigation is ongoing.
IDF: 2 Palestinians arrested in Fogel family massacre
Palestinian youths from Awarta "saw children sleeping in Fogel home," snuck in and stabbed them to death; suspects affiliated with PFLP.
Two Palestinian youths from the village of Awarta were arrested in recent days for the brutal slaying of five members of the Fogel family in their Itamar home last month, the IDF and Shin Bet said on Sunday following the lifting of a media ban on the investigation.
The suspects have been named as Hakim Maazan Niad Awad, an 18-year-old high school student, and Amjad Mahmud Fauzi Awad, 19, both from the West Bank village of Awarta, located 2 kilometers south of the settlement of Itamar.
The suspects have confessed to the stabbings and re-enacted the murders, security forces said on Sunday. According to Army Radio, they did not express remorse for their crimes.
Both men are affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PLFP) terror group and received significant assistance from family members and friends after the attack, security forces added.
The suspects planned the stabbings days ahead of time. On the night of March 11, after unsuccessful attempts to obtain firearms from a local PFLP representative in their village, the two set out toward Itamar on foot, armed with knives, a wirecutter and masks to cover their faces.
After walking one kilometer, they reached the fence surrounding Itamar. After seeing that the fence was electric, the suspects decided not to use their wire cutters and instead climbed over it. They then climbed through a forest and over a hilltop before reaching a row of homes.
The suspects at first entered a home adjacent to the Fogel residence, but found that nobody was home. They stole an M-16 rifle from the home, ammunition and body armor, before walking on.
"They saw children sleeping in the home, and entered the Fogel family residence," the IDF said.
Immediately after entering the home, the youths set their knives on two young brothers sleeping in their beds, 4-year-old Elad and 11-year-old Yoav.
They then entered the parents' bedroom, where they launched a knife attack on Ehud and Ruth Fogel. The parents fought back, attempting to fend off the attackers. At that point, one of the suspects shot Ruth with a stolen M-16, at which point the two died of their wounds.
The two then left the house. One of the suspects, however, returned and stabbed to death three-month-old baby Hadas after she began crying in her crib.
According to Israel Radio, Amjad said that he was unaware that there were two other children in the house, and that if he had known, he would have stabbed them as well.
After completing the slaughter, the suspects walked back to the village and told Hakim's uncle, PFLP member Salah Adin Awad, what they had done.
Salah hid their firearms and instructed them to burn their clothes, which were covered in blood.
The youths then resumed their daily life, while Salah sent the weapons to a friend in Ramallah, Jad Avid, who hid the guns in his home.
The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), which led the investigation, said the attack was a premeditated terror attack carried out by suspects who have affiliations with the PFLP.
"They received much support from family members and friends in their environment," the Shin Bet added.
Several suspected accomplices are also under arrest.
The IDF has arrested and questioned dozens of suspects in Awarta in recent weeks.
"The intelligence operation and pooling of resources [between the army, police and Shin Bet] led to the arrests," a joint statement said.
IDF Spokeswoman Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich said: "The murders of five family members including a three-month baby constitute a clear war crime and a crossing of all red lines. The IDF has invested in numerous operational and intelligence efforts, and has worked closely with other security forces in order to find those responsible for this vicious murder."
Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz on Sunday expressed his condolences once again to the Fogel family after the announcement of the arrests.
Katz told Army Radio, "To those Palestinians who said 'it can't be one of us' [who committed the crime], well it turned out to be one of you."
Enquete toont halvering Palestijnse steun voor raketaanvallen Gaza
Dit is natuurlijk goed nieuws, al zijn de aantallen nog steeds aanzienlijk. Overigens is de term 'military operations against Israel' nogal misleidend, want de Palestijnen hebben geen leger en doen uitsluitend aanvallen die geen onderscheid maken tussen de burgerbevolking en militaire doelen, of zelfs bewust tegen burgers zijn gericht zoals de meeste (zelfmoord)aanslagen en raketaanvallen. De enquete vroeg ook apart naar steun voor aanvallen op burgers, maar die worden alleen apart voor de Westoever en de Gazastrook gegeven. Wel wordt in algemene zin van bomaanslagen tegen Israel gesproken, en het aantal mensen dat die steunt is niet lager dan het aantal dat 'militaire operaties' tegen Israel steunt:
In reference to Palestinian support of bombing or suicide bombing attacks against Israel, the JMCC poll indicated that support for such actions decreased from 55.4% in January 2009 to 37.3% this April.
Het percentage Palestijnen dat aanvallen op burgers steunt, lijkt ook niet lager, als je bedenkt dat er ongeveer twee keer zoveel Palestijnen op de Westoever als in Gaza wonen:
"A ratio of 57.3% of the respondents in Gaza Strip supported bombing operations against Israeli civilian targets compared with 25.3% in the West Bank," the survey added.
Dat is opvallend, want meestal is het percentage Palestijnen dat aanvallen specifiek gericht op burgers steunt, wel lager dan het percentage dat voor de gewapende strijd tegen Israels leger is. Ik vraag mij af hoe duidelijk de enqueteurs dit onderscheid maakten bij het stellen van de vragen, en hoe betrouwbaar de antwoorden dus zijn.
Poll: Palestinian support for Gaza rocket attacks on Israel dropped by half
Jerusalem Media & Communication Center survey shows that since 2009, ratio of Palestinians who opposed military operations rose from 38.1% to 51% since after the Gaza war.
Ratio of Palestinians who believe rockets fired by Gaza militants are useful in achieving Palestinian national goals has dropped by half, a Palestinian poll showed on Sunday, noting a general drop in Palestinian support for military attacks on Israel of any kind.
The study conducted by the Ramallah-based Jerusalem Media & Communication Center (JMCC) surveyed support for what it called "military operations" against Israel, and compares it the amount of support measured in a similar study conducted in January of 2009.
The timing of the earlier sample is significant as it came in the wake of Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza, otherwise known as Operation Cast Lead, after which Israel was severely criticized for its alleged use of excessive force within the populated Strip.
According to the poll released by the JMCC on Sunday, since the Gaza war the ratio of Palestinians who opposed "military operations" against Israel rose from 38.1% in January of 2009 to 51.8% in April of 2011.
Accordingly, the poll states, "the ratio of Palestinians who support military operations decreased from 53.3% in January 2009 to 37.1% in April 2011."
The poll also refers specifically to Palestinian support of rockets and mortar bombs launched from the Gaza Strip against surrounding Israeli communities, stating that the ratio of Palestinians who believe they are useful in achieving the national goals went down from 50.8% in January 2009 to 25.4% in April of 2011.
In addition, the survey also showed that "the ratio of Palestinians who believe that these rockets harm the national interests went up from 20.8% in January 2009 to 38.6% this month."
In reference to Palestinian support of bombing or suicide bombing attacks against Israel, the JMCC poll indicated that support for such actions decreased from 55.4% in January 2009 to 37.3% this April.
An interesting discrepancy was also noted in Palestinain public opinion on these matters between the West Bank and Gaza, with "45.5% in Gaza supported military operations against Israeli targets compared with 32.0% in the West Bank."
"A ratio of 57.3% of the respondents in Gaza Strip supported bombing operations against Israeli civilian targets compared with 25.3% in the West Bank," the survey added.
Het bezette Arabische land
Over welk land gaat onderstaande tekst? Hoe komt het dat bijna niemand van dit land en de misdaden tegen de Arabische bevolking van dat land, heeft gehoord? En waarom lees je hier wel over op een zionistische blog en niet op Maroc.nl of Stop de Bezetting?
An Arab land, occupied
http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2011/04/arab-land-occupied.html
There is a land that has been populated by Arabs since the Muslim conquest.
In the 20th century, it was occupied and annexed by non-Arabs.
Now its Arab inhabitants are discriminated against. They have few political rights and their services and infrastructure are substandard. They suffer poverty and their children are malnourished. Water from the area is being diverted to the occupiers, causing severe shortages.
Not only that, but land has been confiscated from the Arab inhabitants, and some have been forced to move out of their homeland. The occupiers are building industries in this land that are meant to take away its own natural resources. Moreover, the occupying power has moved its own citizens into this traditionally Arab land as well.
Protesters against this discrimination and injustice have been beaten and killed. Hundreds have been arrested. Collective punishment has been meted against entire communities for the actions of some demonstrators.
Where are these violations of humanitarian law taking place?
In Al Ahwaz, in Iran:
The historic claim of the Ahwazi Arabs to their Arab homeland is solid. Al Ahwaz was once a thriving province of Mesopotamia known for its Muslim scholars, poets and artists. From the mid-7th century until the mid 13th century, its people were ruled variously by Umayyad and Abbasid caliphs, their numbers swelled by Arab tribes from the Arabian Peninsula. A Mongol-invasion devastated most of Al Ahwaz that was later occupied by the founder of the Timurid Empire Tamerlane and his successors until the early 16th century when it fell to the Persian Safavid Dynasty.
Al Ahwaz came to be known as the semi-autonomous region of 'Arabistan' towards the end of the 16th century when it received an influx of Arab tribes from southern Iraq as well as a clan of the powerful Bani Ka'ab with origins in Central Arabia.
... On the cusp of 20th century, oil was discovered around Mohammerah when the British founded the Anglo-Persian Oil Company and entered into an oil exploration treaty with Shaikh Jabir's son Khaz'al. The UK guaranteed Arabistan's security and agreed payments to both Shaikh Khaz'al and the Shah of Iran.
What should have been a blessing for the Ahwaz Arabs was a curse. When Shaikh Khaz'al realised that Reza Shah's ambitions extended to Arabistan's oil wealth, he asked the British to defend the Ahwazi people and back their homeland's independence as an Arab state. Forced to choose, Britain reneged on its treaty with Khaz'al and supported the Shah.
Betrayed by the UK, in 1924, Khaz'al put his case before the League of Nations, but it was rejected.
With Britain's help, Reza Shah gained absolute control over the territory when he changed its name to Khuzistan.
...Tehran has discriminated against the Arabs of Al Ahwaz since their homeland's occupation and annexation by the Shah; they are being treated as third-class citizens, abandoned to primitive living standards and without even the basic political rights.
The Director of the Ahwaz Education and Human Rights Foundation, Karim Abdian, highlighted the Ahwazi plight in the UN. He explained that the Ahwazi population suffers from a shortage of drinking water, electricity, plumbing, telephone and sewage. Fifty per cent live in absolute poverty, while some 80 per cent of children are malnourished.
The dispossessed Ahwazi Arabs are under-represented in parliament and accuse the Iranian government of racially-based political and economic prejudice, which is why some groups are calling for Al Ahwaz to be liberated and recognised as an independent Arab state. However, the government is attempting to manipulate demographics by setting-up self-contained farming settlements and bringing in Persians to work there.
It is believed that the government is also trying to eradicate the Ahwazi culture. Iranian authorities will not register birth certificates to Arab new-borns unless they assume Persian names. Schools in Al Ahwaz are barred from teaching Arabic, which is also banned from parliament and ministries. Arabic media is forbidden in the territory. Journalists who write against this cultural barbarism are routinely imprisoned.
In 2007, six Ahwazi Arabs were subjected to kangaroo courts and put on death row on charges of converting to Sunni Islam, giving their children Sunni names, flying the all-white Ahwazi Arab flag, and as "enemies of God". Those and similar rigged trials have been condemned by the European Union, the UN and numerous human rights organisations.
Amnesty International says:
Land expropriation by the Iranian authorities is reportedly so widespread that it appears to amount to a policy aimed at dispossessing Arabs of their traditional lands. This is apparently part of a strategy aimed at the forcible relocation of Arabs to other areas while facilitating the transfer of non-Arabs into Khuzestan and is linked to economic policies such as zero interest loans which are not available to local Arabs.
In October 2005, a letter came to light, dated 9 July 2005, in which the Arvand Free Trade Zone Organization outlined plans for the confiscation of 155 km², including Arab land and villages, to provide for the establishment of the Arvand Free Trade Zone between Abadan and the Iraqi border.(9) All those living within this area will have their land confiscated. Under Iranian law, no challenge can be made to the confiscation, only to the amount of compensation offered, which in other schemes is reported to have been as little as one fortieth of the market value.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing said in an interview(10)following his visit to Iran in July 2005:
…when you visit Ahwaz…there are thousands of people living with open sewers, no sanitation, no regular access to water, electricity and no gas connections… why is that? Why have certain groups not benefited? ... Again in Khuzestan, …we drove outside the city about 20 km and we visited the areas where large development projects are coming up - sugar cane plantations and other projects along the river - and the estimate we received is that between 200,000 - 250,000 Arab people are being displaced from their villages because of these projects. And the question that comes up in my mind is, why is it that these projects are placed directly on the lands that have been homes for these people for generations? I asked the officials, I asked the people we were with. And there is other land in Khuzestan where projects could have been placed which would have minimised the displacement.
He also referred to attempts by the government to transfer non-Arabs into the area, as in the case of Shirinshah, a new town mainly populated by non-Arab inhabitants from Yazd province, and highlighted the discrepancy between the wealth generated from the oil resources of Khuzestan and the very deprived Arab neighbourhoods he saw.
According to Al Arabiya, Iran has stepped up its war against Khuzestan separatists in recent days, and hundreds are missing.
Where are the human rights protesters, the boycotters, the op-eds, the enraged college activists so concerned over the human rights of millions of Arabs? Where are the dozens of organizations dedicated to fighting injustice? Where are the UN agencies dedicated to the cause of Al Ahwaz? Where are the calls by the White House and the EU for an independent Arabistan/Al Ahwaz?
Why can I not find a single mention of Khuzestan, or Arabistan, or Al Ahwaz in any of the thousands of Wikileaks State Department documents so far released?
Most importantly, where are the Arab nations who are turning their backs on their own people being persecuted? Why isn't this issue being brought up at every meeting with Western leaders?
Why indeed?
Terroristen maken geen onderscheid tussen kolonisten en vredesactivisten
Palestijnse extremisten doden niet alleen kolonisten die het volgens Thomas von der Dunk en anderen verdiend hebben, maar ook activisten voor de eigen zaak en mensen die zich juist inzetten voor vrede en verzoening. Dat is minder raar dan het lijkt, want juist de extremisten zijn tegen vrede en ieder compromis gekant, en doen er alles aan om vrede te verhinderen en de strijd voort te laten duren. Helaas worden de terroristische aanvallen en brute moorden van deze extremisten door de media neergezet als reactie op de bezetting en Israelisch geweld, en zo gesuggereerd dat zij vanzelf zouden ophouden als Israel maar meer concessies doet en stopt met tegenaanvallen.
Israel's pacifist tragedy
Op-ed: Juliano Mer latest victim in long line of Israeli pacifists murdered by Palestinian terrorists
Giulio Meotti "Welcome to hell," says a graffiti painted in the road to Jenin, the capital of "Palestinian martyrs." Thirty suicide bombers have come from this city in the West Bank. Here, the Israeli army fought one of its hardest battles, making its way through whole streets booby-trapped with explosives.
Op-ed: Actor Juliano Mer-Khamis' murder a blow to all people who believe peace can be achieved
Full Story
This is the same city where Israeli director and actor Juliano Mer-Khamis was killed by a terrorist last week. Mer had chosen Jenin to build his utopia of tolerance. His life and death is the biggest tragedy of modern pacifism. The Islamists made no secret of their hostility to the "deviant" art of Mer-Khamis, who liked to call himself "100% Jew and 100% Palestinian."
Mer's lineage comprises the entire history of Israel's anti-Zionist Left. He was the son of an Arab Christian who was among the founders of the Communist Party, the Red Bolshevik utopia that rejected the Zionist plan, was loyal to Moscow and pushed for a bi-national state.
The director's Jewish mother was a pacifist icon, Arna Mer, who during the Intifada went to Jenin to create the "Theater of the Stones", an experimental group for Palestinian children where Mer-Khamis also worked.
Arna Mer won the "Alternative Nobel Prize" given annually by the Swedish Parliament to humanitarian activists. She preferred to be called "Palestinian," not Jew or Israeli. She was arrested several times during riots protesting Israeli policy in the Territories. She said that "Zionism is a racist ideology."
Yet all of Mer-Khamis' pacifism, idealism and radicalism did not protect him from the genocidal ideology that Israel had to confront since its foundation. Just like Massoud Mahlouf Allon, an observant Jewish immigrant from Morocco, wasn't spared by the terrorists because he was giving blankets to poor Palestinians. And how can we forget all the Israeli kibbutzniks and pacifists decimated in buses and cafés during the Second Intifada?
The above attacks were all the more chilling because the victims were people willing to give up land for the sake of coexistence; they believed in a moral, just, democratic, egalitarian, better Israel.
Indiscriminate anti-Jew hatred
On March 5, 2003, a suicide bomber blew himself up on a bus approaching University of Haifa, killing 17 people and seriously injuring dozens more. This university has a high proportion from the Muslim and Christian communities among its 13,000 students and on its faculty. Like the killing of Mer-Khamis, the bombing was intended to destroy the very idea of coexistence. Abigail Litle was returning home when she was killed. She was part of an Arab-Jewish project for peace.
Two brutal sets of murders took place in November 2002 within a few days of each other. Twelve Israelis were murdered in Hebron; and gunmen entered Kibbutz Metzer, killing five people. Terrorist bullets didn't differentiate between religious settlers in Hebron and dovish liberals in Metzer. The victims in Hebron were all adults; in Metzer, a mother and her two young children were murdered in cold blood. In Hebron, many of the victims were soldiers; in Metzer, the victims were all civilians.
The irony is that the kibbutz had long promoted coexistence with the surrounding Arab villages. Arab children came to Metzer to play basketball and use the swimming pool. Like Mer-Khamis, the kibbutz opposed the building of a security fence between Israel proper and the West Bank. Kibbutz members said the fence would deprive the Arab farmers of access to some of their fields, which are in Israel proper.
However, this radical pacifism did not shelter the kibbutz from the crime inflicted that horrible night that resembles the butchering of the Fogels in Itamar. The little ones in Metzer were shot in the head, murdered in their beds, dressed in their pajamas and hugging their teddy bears. They died in the arms of their mother, who was trying to protect them.
When Arna Mer-Khamis started her experimental theater, it comprised six Palestinian boys. Five of them have died as suicide bombers and "martyrs." Now the black hole of hatred has also swallowed up the beautiful Israeli son of this dark utopia.
Mer-Khamis' body was transferred through a checkpoint to Israeli authorities. It was his sad return to reality. The ancient Greek Thucydides said that it is normal for children to bury their parents, but parents burying children contravene the laws of nature and anger the gods. That's the most important and saddest difference between Israel and the rest of the "civilized world." Hatred doesn't differentiate among Jewish targets.
Abbas staakt mediacampagne tegen Hamas
Als Abbas met een simpel bevel een einde kan maken aan de opruiing tegen Hamas, dan moet het ook niet zo moeilijk zijn om een einde te maken aan de opruiing tegen Israel en de verheerlijking van geweld en terroristen, zou je zeggen. Hoe gezond het is dat in een land de media onder zulke directe controle staan van het gezag is een andere vraag.
Abbas instructs newspapers to stop insulting Hamas
http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2011/04/abbas-instructs-newspapers-to-stop.html
Palestinian Arabic media associated with Fatah is reporting:
The official spokesman for the Fatah movement, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, announced that President Mahmoud Abbas has issued instructions to stop all media campaigns against Hamas.
The spokesman added that the reason for this instruction was 'to create a positive atmosphere for the success of the initiative launched by the leadership to end the division and achieve unity, and strengthening efforts for the success of this goal...."
See how democratic the Palestinian Arabs are? Their president can tell the media what to do, and they follow his instructions without any complaint! No chaos, no doubt, no criticism! Not one newspaper pointing out that this is exactly how Mubarak acted.
Sounds like a Palestinian Arab state would be a veritable utopia for freedom.
